whats the advantages of using a leupold rather than a redfirld? to me i looked at both in the store, and they look the same. ive never really been one for scopes, so i dont know that much about them.

Optically,

There may not be much difference at all between a Redfield and Leupolds entry level line. However, if your budget is $300, try and find a used VX-II as the optics are definitely superior and you get a solid friction adjustment. Not to mention that Leupold products are very easy to re-sell as they hold their value really, really well. A $300 budget is not exactly a shoestring, and you can get some decent stuff in the used market. I would far sooner get a great used scope than a decent new one.

Prices have dropped a bit lately. You can buy a new VX 11 2-7 or 3-9 for $299 at Wholesale Sports. The VX 11 has click adjustments, and has for about the last 10 years or so.

i ahve a hard time with used... ill keep kicking myself, if i get a new gun and put a used scope on it. i was thinking that a redfield would be nice, but i realized exactlt what you said.... leupolds are eazy to sell. thats what im going to get. but whats the actual difference between vx i and vxii?

Better lens coatings and click adjustments on the VX-II. Thats about it,
