OH, yeah... I bought a .300 WM as the current moose thunder stick and would appreciate a lively discussion on factory loads available and suitable for moose.

Because I can't see using enough .300 WM cartouches to justify reloading equipment I expect to stick with factory loads unless I really start to believe in the .300 WM caliber.

Thanks!

Winchester Supreme 180 gr. Accubond CT's or Federal Premium with 180 gr. Nosler Accubonds.

those would be my first choice

Winchester Supreme Accubonds in 180gr has my first vote. Used them for the past 2 seasons. Before that I used the winchester Supreme Partition Golds in 180gr with great success. For a 3rd choice from factory I would say the Federal Vitol Shoks in 180gr. Barnes TSX

My moose load is the 200 gr Partition with 72.o gr of H4831 flying just over 2800 fps. Nothing beats a heavier bullet.

I will put the 180gr tsx up against the 200gr partition any day.It retains more weight and provides more penetration despite being a lighter bullet.

Can't say about factory loaded, but have to agree with Dannyboy 200 gr Partition, folded up my moose this year at 920 yards, so I guess it is adequate, at least the moose didn't complain, so it must be ok

Ive brought down bull moose with two in the touque from a .22LR. In all the moose Ive shot, and theres been lots, they've never made to much of a fuss over what it was with. An adequate caliber with a half decent bullet and punch it through both sides. They will go down. With the 300 WM just dont hit any big bones or you'll turn half that moose into freezer jam.

I have heard a lot of good things about the TSX. However I still have over 100 Partitions in each of the calibers for deer and moose. It will be a while before I get to load up on the Barnes.

Does anyone have any experience in the new TSX?

X's are good, but often you dont need that much penetration. A hunter can get buy just as well with a cheaper Partition or Accubond (or heavy for caliber Interlock etc).

That being said I often reach for X's when making hunting loads. they just plain kill.

I have lost far too many animals using Barnes, never lost anything with Partitions. Everyone has different experiences, but a good quality bullet will do far less meat damage than the cheap 1s typically do

I most defenitely would not use Ballistic Tips on moose, even 180 grainers. Not when Accubonds are available.

300

Try 78 gr of reloader 22 it is about 2975fps that is with a 200 gr partition it works great on moose and bears the tripple shock 180 with 80 gr of reloader 22 is great as well It is not the best bullet I have seen on thin skinned game shot a sheep with one was a little disapointed.I would be careful of the ballistic tips for moose there just fly apart rather then penatrate but they are good on small game and very accurate and cheap to shoot.
