Moose lure? Who has the best in Canada

I've hunted Moose for the past 24 years. I've never used any sort of liquid lure. When the rut is on a birchbark cone for calling and a dried scapula for scrapping across shrubs and branches to simulate another bull going to town with his antlers is all I've ever needed.

BAIT !!Laugh2 Not in Alberta or BC for sure. Only bait I would say would be if hunting in the farmland areas where the moose like the deer and elk would be eating grains, alphafa, cover, etc.

As for a lure, maybe try the burn sticks.

I would say you are best to be mobile if hunting with a bow and do your calling. A stand would be ok near a watering hole or a edge of a cutblock near game trails between the food source and water.

BAITLaugh2 maybe find a few cow moose in heat -theres your bait.;)

Sorry couldnt resist poking fun. Post above has very good info.

Going moose hunting (bow only) mid September .
Who has the best lure/bait available ?
First time for moose, may be in a stand.
Any help will be appreciated.

You've picked a tough one. New hunter in Ontario using a bow. I don't hear good stories about Ontario moose hunting now.
Xman gave good advice. Calling seaon with a birch bark call.
If you haven't heard moose calling, it's tough to know what sound you are attempting to mimic.
If this is the case, maybe use the tin can and string method, which is a very good imitation of a bull calling.
Any can larger than a standard size can of pork and beans will do, with a 2 pound tin coffee can being about ideal.
Punch a hole with a nail in the bottom of the can in the centre.
Drop a shoe lace type string through the hole.
Tie a simple knot in the end that is in the can.
To use, hold the can up by the outsides of it, then pull your fingers over the string to stretch it tight and make a vibration, which amplifies into a very deep sounding grunt.
You may have to have a slight bit of moisture on the string to work properly.
If a leather lace is working properly, it is the best of any string.

Learn to call using your hands and mouth.

An antler or shoulder blade that you can rake trees with can help a lot, especially Mid-Sept prior to the rut kicking in. Bulls can be super aggressive at that time, and they resent another bull in their territory.

I would recommend buying Guthro's Moose Madness DVD.

I watched it after hunting Moose for 20+ years and it taught me several things I did not know.

Lots of great info on calling set ups, sounds and what to expect.

I had a buddy use mares piss before. He broke the jug on his atv and it leaked out. When he returned to his bike a bull had made love to it by beating the crap out of it. Learnin to call would be the best idea
