Greatings. I have been enjoying browsing Gunnutz for awhile. This is my first time posting and would like to say hello/cheers to everyone. Shot these groups earlier today. I am relatively new at reloading and am developing a load for this years moose hunt.

first of all........:Dwelcome to gun nutz:D

nice little formula you have worked out..as a fan to the 30-06..
in my remy 7600 i like to mix up a batch of 55 gr of 4350 to push out a 180 grain partition:50cal::50cal:

Thanks! I was just curious what muzzle velocity I could expect from this load. Not that it is really important but it is nice to know. My barrel length is 20 7/8". After shooting a variety of powder charges I have concluded that my gun prefers the intermediate load. The greater the charge the more my groups opened up.

Looks good! That's some fine ammo;). You know that green dot is about the size of a moose eye at 100yds. Shouldn't be a problem.:)

According to Quick Load, your load is running at 2780fps and energy 2886lbs, of course all at muzzle.
Your load is on the verge of maximum pressure so be careful.

Good Luck moose hunting

Well considering all of the positive reviews I have read about the TSX I have some great expectations:D. Considering I have had excellent success with factory 180 gr. silvertips. Can't wait to shoot some moose eye:p. Need a chrony.

your load is most likely doing somewhere around 2675-2750 fps. It'll kill anything you point it at out to as far as we should be shooting at game :) welcome to CGN

Very nice groupings there and well within minute of moose.I have been using the Barnes homogenous bullets since they were introduced way back when.My personal record with the "X" bullet,"X" BT and the XLC have put 10 moose in my freezer and all were one shot dropped in their tracks as if hit by lightning. You very much DO have a productive formula.

That's a nice moderate load you have there. In my experience, IMR 4350 is best with bullets in that weight range at charges between 57 and 58.5 grains. You MIGHT find that your group tightens up even more if you increase the powder like this, but you certainly don't need to try it because your results are pretty good as they stand.

If memory serves me, Foxer worked out a load with 57 grains of IMR 4350 out of his Remington pump .30-06. A few years ago he hammered a large moose from a measured 250 yards with one shot and the bull toppled over where he stood.

Personally, I use 64 grains of Vihtavuori N560 with that bullet in my Remington 700 .30-06, and I'm getting 3,000+ fps and consistent 1/2 m.o.a. 3-shot groups. However, your load is nothing to sneeze at and it will do the job on any moose at any reasonable range.

It wasn't until I started browsing CGN that I discovered Vihtavuori N560. I gather this powder provides superior performance. When I contacted the tech rep for Barnes he gave me the following data for my particular load. IMR 4350: 53 gr minimum and 57.5 maximum with the possibilty of going 2 gr higher because the TSX tends to create less pressure. I found that with my particular loads the in between powder charge such as 55 gr. gave me tack driving accuracy. I posted my targets at 55.5 gr and 56 gr. I concluded that I should go with the best of accuracy relative to velocity. At 55 gr I was able to punch hole over hole. With 55.5 gr my shots opened somewhat but I really started noticing greater differences from 55 to 56. This difference could just be my shooting but my logic was to stick with 55.5 and go moose hunting. Maybe I should try and find some Vihtavuori N560 and improve on my reloading. Mind you I am leaving on Oct. 9 for my moose trip. Running out of time. Thanks for all of the input.

Considering my reloads are probably running at around 2675-2750 fps then I suppose my factory super X's are superior in the velocity dept. I am convinced that the TSX is a better bullet but it would probably be better to push it faster to get superior trajectory and on game performance?

As I said, the load you have right now will drop any moose at any reasonable range, provided you make a decent shot. A faster load will only give you a bit more range for the same level of performance. Unless you seriously plan to shoot beyond 300 yards, your load will work just fine. In essence, what you have is classic .308 level performance, and the .308 is an excellent moose cartridge inside 300 yards, especially with a solid copper bullet.

I only gave you my load as an example. It works well for me, and you might want to consider it in the future, but what you have right now is perfectly adequate.

Thats the beuty of CGN. Thanks for the input. I am very new at reloading and look forward to experimenting with all of the options out there. Your info has sparked my curiosity and I appreciate your input;).
