Moose rifle?

So I'm a died in the wool bolt gun guy, but I don't understand why would anyone wait until he saw game before he racked the action of his semi-auto rifle, particularly if he was hunting in heavy cover. A semi-auto rifle should be carried cocked and locked, especially when hunting in heavy cover, and if you choose not to use it as it is designed to be used, don't be surprised if it doesn't work out to well. If the semi-auto rifle is appropriate for use in open country, then its also an appropriate choice when hunting in the bush.

Whet your appetite... They are a sweet carry.

Your killing me!

Gotta agree. Between that, and putting a gd red dot on belgium bar? puke!!!

Your killing me!

You ain't missin much

Yeah... If you carried a pukey Ruger No.1 with a sleek scope, you would be missing a BAR/red dot combo... probably in a plastic stock... instead of one shot through the lungs, you could crank off five rounds into its carcass before it hit the ground, and then for fun, pop in a second mag and crank five more into that fur sack... leave your skinning knife at home... just bring a camp stove, cause the burger is ready for the skillet...

Nice. Ruger No.1s are cool, and haters gonna hate. ;)

I guess you missed the point so I'll draw the picture for you. Three rapid shots on target from a standing position = more meat in the freezer than being able to shoot it's eye out if it happens to stand there long enough to get a shot off with the supper accurate bolt.

No video = did not happen!! I might believe 200 yards offhand rapid fire with a 7600 pump if they were weather balloons!!! But if you are as good as you say you are......

where were you when the allies needed your marksmanship skills to shoot down the 8,000 balloon bombs the Japanese unleashed in WW2?!! ;) :p

But we all should believe everything you claim, right?

Words to consider, "I can't speak to what your experiences were, only to my own."

... my iron-sighted Pre64 Model 1894 30-30... Truly, the only rifle I should ever need again...

Ahhhhh! Grasshopper, you HAVE arrived...

Go have a frosty mug of ale down to the pub, with the local gents... of which you are surely one!

Personally, if you can't put 2 rounds in a 10" target free hand at 200yds, you need more practice before you try to hunt something.

"Edit" consecutively , not out of a whole box of ammo!

man this thread got silly fast LOL
while I usually use a bolt gun, I've hunted many trips with a highly accurate and ultimately reliable semi auto m14.
assuming a semi would be more problematic than a bolt gun is not true at all if yer using a semi auto designed for the battle field environment.
I've hunted the deep bush and hiked for freakin miles with my m14, hunted the rainforest and beaches of the queen charlottes/haida gwaii in the worst weather I've ever seen while hunting...... she went bang every time and only needed one shot every time.
choose a quality firearm and more importantly, learn how to maintain and shoot it properly and accurately..... what kind of action it is doesn't really matter.
