More garands available

Is it availability or reliability or coolness that make this rifle stay above $2k all these years?

they are classic , iconic military,
legal 8 round capacity
robust work horses
heavy as F$%k though

also the parts are drying up and are no longer made in bulk due to the success of more modern modular systems
price should keep going up

Do you ever get in the 5-shot clips?

no,

they are legal to have 8 rounds in them

(2) Paragraph (1)(a) does not include any cartridge magazine that

(a) was originally designed or manufactured for use in a firearm that

(i) is chambered for, or designed to use, rimfire cartridges,

(ii) is a rifle of the type commonly known as the “Lee Enfield” rifle, where the magazine is capable of containing not more than 10 cartridges of the type for which the magazine was originally designed, or

(iii) is commonly known as the U.S. Rifle M1 (Garand) including the Beretta M1 Garand rifle, the Breda M1 Garand rifle and the Springfield Armoury M1 Garand rifle;

They're really not though?
They're 9.5 lbs. Most millitary rifles like a 91/30, kar98k, or an SKS are right around 8.5lbs. So compared to the former two you're getting a semi auto and compared to the latter you're getting a full power cartridge and a much nicer, fuller stock with a proper length of pull for a lb. Heck with a sling an SKS usually comes out to 8.80lbs and just about everyone will tell you those are relatively really light and handy carbines.
Garands still point and feel great, fantastic balance.
Add another lb to that and you're actually getting into "heavy" territory like with an m/42 or Hakim, or even a Ross. Now those are heavy enough offhand shooting starts to get problematic.

I knew that, I have had my Garand for about 5 years now. I was hoping to run the online "Cabin Fever Challenge" with mine, but it is a PITA with the 8-shot clips
