More M14 options

Well, nowadays it seems the options for AR's is nearly endless.
All kinds of AR makers are popping up these days. But why not for the M14?

Unfortunately, you Canadians don't have access to all of them, but
there are plenty of options & upgrades for the M14 here in the states.

The main problem with M14 GI parts is that the US Government doesn't allow Government's that received M14 rifles as aid to sell them. That includes parts and accessories. I have my name on a lot of new parts in the crates waiting for the US Government to take this restriction off! The US has destroyed most of the M14's except for the stocks.
So, the cost to build guns is not only in the new receiver, but everything else. M14 parts kits with all new parts and stock used to
cost $70.00us. That's why the receiver building program started in Texas many years ago. Original early M1a's cost $300.00 delivered to Canada. There was unlimited parts then right from the contractor's.
So to produce a new gun without surplus parts will cost. The AR15 has the US Government contractors providing parts to all of the lower receiver builder's who are making guns.

If you want to shoot the Springfield match at Camp Perry you will not be awarded prizes if you don't use a Springfield. You are welcome to use an LRB or Fulton rifle, but it would be a shame if you shot well and could not claim the award.

Not so fast...

From another forum:

The Springfield is worth every US penny . but , not here, in Canada , we paid 25 % and more than the real price.

I paid a m1a loaded 1535$ US, than yes it worth every penny. and you got the PING(Great Value), LIFETIME WARRANTY. ( in Canada 2200$ )

M305 need some work, and many aftermarket parts to do the same accuracy.

Well, nowadays it seems the options for AR's is nearly endless. All kinds of AR makers are popping up these days. But why not for the M14? How come we are essentially limited to either cheap Norks or expensive Springfields? I'm wondering why companies like Ruger or Auto Ordnance or others can't get into making quality M14's for somewhere between what Norinco and Springfields are going for.

Any ideas?

This may grind some gears but the horrible truth is that the AR is just a better gun any way you cut it for most folks. You don't build an AR, you merely plop parts in. It is so modular anyone with the inclination can do it and end up with a match gun.

The M14 needs a lot more knowledge on the part of the builder. Sure, we can cobble one together out of a Nork beater and after market parts - but to build a match gun and tweak it to get the best possible performance out of it will take a smith and probably one that specializes in the M14. Outside of the usual suspects here CGN there probably aren't that many around that can do it and guarantee their work.

The M14 today is for the connoisseur of military guns and the odd squaddie in harm's way. It's chock full of nostalgia, romance and mystique, and has graceful classic lines that don't frighten effeminate liberal politicians that are prone to gun related histrionics. In the hands of a marksman it is MORE formidable than the AR15 in my opinion. I am going to shell out for the M1A next year.
