I have a cut Ross with 24 3/4" barrel. I was able to get a butt sling loop, mid band and forged nosecap (on the way). I should have asked about a front sight shade too, but didn't. Still need to make or find a handguard and extend or replacement stock. Does anybody know about a source for a full length barrel? I guess I could make a "Ross Carbine", but would like to restore to full length if possible. I have talked to a couple of people with full length Ross', but no joy yet. Maybe someone can tell by the photos. Looking at the two holes in the forend, does one of these indicate the location of the mid-band? If so, maybe I CAN join the new piece in under the band. How would I fasten down the handguard? Front would fit into the band, how about the back? read something about countersunk screws somewhere. Note the tapped holes on top of barrel where someone must have mounted an open sight.

In the long run, waiting with eyes sharp and ears pricked for a full length ross is your best bet. When it appears, strip your shortened one. I really have to admit - a tanker ross is a great idea and if I had one that had a good barrel I'd do it in a heartbeat. I have not heard of, nor know of anyone who has heard of and mentioned any available ross barrels. I'm willing to bet there are some floating around in the ether, but they don't usually show up, or you'll see one in a parts barrel with 100 other barrels at some small town gun show one day.

Anyways, I'll track down a tape measure and get you some of those measurements you asked for as well - life has been hectic over the weekend.

Did you see Kevwat's Franken-Ross??:D Something very cool that can be done with a shortened Ross.

I know someone with barrels but he's not selling and unlikely to. You're very unlikely to find one. I was also told that swapping a Mk III Ross barrel is a #####. I won't even mention the impossibility of finding certain key parts such as a nosecap.
You want to do something cool with a shortened rifle, think about Kevwat's idea. IMHO.

I did see that. I was thinking of something the same, actually like the look of the longer handguard. Probably if the barrels had been made around 25" they would have been a better rifle for the trenches. The barrel looks pretty good in the one I have thanks to "Glycerin".

Oh God...they are really long...:) I agree, 25" would have been good.

BW-With all due respect, your Bubbaross forend appears to be tapered too much from in front of the floorplate to the forend tip to make a graft that would work. Only the ones that were chopped in front of the middle band (with the middle band plus topwood in place) should be considered worthwhile candidates for stretching. With your barrel shortened as well, any money spent (IMHO) on that rifle would be wasted. You'd still have a bubbagun when you were done. Just play with it as-is, look for a real one, then flip this one on. Likely won't be too long before your JBST's come calling for it anyway...

The nosecap is coming, but it sounds like I can't adapt the stock I have to use it anyway. Too bad. I guess I either have to look for a better stock or a full length Ross or a Cut Ross with a better stock. The Quest continues.
