Alright so I'm confident that my adapter install is as it should be since putting about 250+ rounds through it,
But I cannot solve the feeding issues.

At first the rounds were presenting too low, so I polished and ever so slightly rounded the chamber face (no, not the 8-4 mod)

My most recent range trip, I'm now getting fail to feed from the rounds jamming straight up into the chamber and stopping the bolt while getting bent in the process.

Here's where I'm at:

I've figured out that a few people seem to have finally just done the 8-4 / m4-style "feed ramp" fix and called it a day but I seem to keep returning to the xcr mags as the real issue.

Should I just say $@#% it and grind some feed ramps (as carefully and conservatively as possible) or see about re-working the mags as per the 7.62 AR troubleshooting vids on youtube? (Filing edges that snag the casing, trimming springs, follower etc)

Can anyone with a reliably feeding, pistol mag fed SKS boost my morale here? I am determined to get this thing running the way I know it can...

PS sorry for the novel V:I:

Which mag adapter, hical or magwedge? Mine (Magwedge) runs 100% with no mods to the feed ramp... if you need photos of any of the internals I can provide some

Did you use the Hical adapter? There should be no modification necessary to the rifle's chamber, the 8-4 mod was to remedy an older design nuance that has since been ironed out by changing the angle of the mag in the adapter. Note that if you are using a Chinese SKS as your base, there may be issues with fitment due to differing manufacturing standards. If you are using the Hical adapter, feel free to PM me for a more in depth convo, I've installed over 40 of these.

I have a magwedge but I'm pretty sure the essentials on both units are the same so I'm open to troubleshooting for either. I'm not convinced it's the adapter causing the issue because it'll run no problem and then jam up all of a sudden after say 18 rounds or so which makes me think the mags are the problem.

Send me an email and lets talk.

Lets see if we can solve it for you.

Do you mean the rounds are straight up in the receiver? Mine will not run 10 rounds reliably and that's what usually results when it does jam. It's almost like the first round or the follower has to be on the other side. I get 9 rounds to usually work flawlessly.

Take note of what mag is causing the issues, I had an issue with my original 2 mags I got with my hical (1 free + 1 purchased) but when I got 2 replacements the issues subsided a bit

I'm using new c-products, and one older asc. All have had fail to feed. The most common round to jam up is the 9th out of 10, usually the first 7 or 8 feed without issue and then 8 or 9 will jam up by roofing into the chamber and stopping the bolt. The mags are pretty tight but I can get all 10 into each one, mind you the alignment of each round gets thrown off sometimes.

you can try bending the feed lips on the mag ever so slightly. I had one that wouldnt feed on mine properly and thats what i did.

I've tried that to no avail. There does seem to be lots of little edges for the rounds to get caught on when the bolt strips a cartridge off the top. When I load a mag and "hand" feed it with my thumb I noticed that each cartridge has to overcome a lot of little edges and snags which might be contributing to the issue. There's quite a few videos on YouTube of mag fixes for x39 AR's so it doesn't seem to be just an sks mag adapter issue on its own but there could very well be an issue with my adapter install that I haven't identified yet.

you might need to take a little more chamber out of the bottom to reduce the angle on the round going in then if its jamming on the top. either that or bring the mags higher somehow. is there any gap left? between the receiver and adapter?

The adapter sits flush with the receiver and mags click in and out no prob, bho works, and a loaded mag has the first round angled almost directly at the chamber. A couple cgn'ers have offered their help so I'll update when I can.
Thank you to all you guys who contributed so far.
