Rifle dies - Is the mandrel/decapping pin supposed to actually open the case neck to some degree when decapping. The reason I ask is becasue I have inadvertantly (read stupidly) taken more that a few thousands off the top diameter of this mandrel.

Could I have problems seating bullets later?

Boat tailed bullets will seat easier than flat based. Taking more than a few thou off will cause more neck tension, but that shouldn't be a problem.

thanks. I only have boat tails on hand and can see they are going to seat ok. I probably should buy a spare then. If I tell you how much I took off you will know I'm an idiot.

Sorry but is neck tension a problem once the bullets are seated. Crimping must do that anyway right? If I get bullets to seat everything should be ok right/wrong?

I fully intend to. I'm just wondering if I can conitune sizing the brass I have with this decapper or whether I should wait till I can get a new one. The neck pressure comment has me scared.

Yes the expander ball does normally open the neck up slightly. If you reduce the size of the expander ball, you might end up having the case mouth shave material off of the bullet as you seat it.This can happen even with chamfered case necks. This may or may not effect accuracy.
