Only got a single on my first morning out of the year.

She came screaming in to the lucky bird on the foxpro around the 9 minute mark. Also a first for the 53gr vmax as well, really happy with this round so far. I know its only one though. :p It was a small entry with now exit. DRT

She wasnt a keeper so I threw her in the bush. Thank god because I walked down to a bottom of a small valley to get out of the wind and was beat when I made it back to the top. :p

Now for what I really wanted to ask you guys...

I scored some new land this summer and this farmer was saying he had a big cat on his property. Well not even 10 yrds from where I parked my truck I found fresh (this morning) trail.

These cougar tracks? Dont think they are wolf tracks because these are what I tracked last year and these looked wider.

What are the rules with cougars? Can I take him down if I find him?

Congrats on your coyote.

I'm not familiar with cougars at all, but I don't think that's a cat track. Likely a wolf. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think cats leave claw marks.

A cougar has a t pad. That looks more like a wolf.
Read the regs before you take down a cougar. Unless it is chasing farm animals or indangering human lives, it lives.

Can't be a cougar, they walk claws retracted. This wouldnt be the first possible wolf sighting in the area lately... If you do come across a cougar, you cant shoot it. A farmer him/herself could if protecting livestock. Thats how it is outside the fur conservation area without a fur bearers tag. If im wrong, someone will surely set me straight.

Thanks guys

The rifle is a stevens in 223

Damn that sucks about giving him a pass. The tracks are all around the edge of his yard, then walk down a fence line to a little valley. Next time Im there I will take a few more pics.

Not all of the tracks had nails out. I just happened to take a pic of one that was. I still think it looks to wide for a wolf to me

Since it was a new place for me I bumped three yotes when walking in. Atleast I know that theres some there.

That's correct, all cats claws are retracted when walking/running. They come out for digging, scratching/sharpening, catching prey, protection.
Coyotes, wolf and domestic dogs have their claws out, and are not retractable.

I think Im going to go out sunday morning to this place, so Ill be able to get some more pics of these tracks.

As long as I dont have to many drinks the night before. :)
