Hi everyone

All of my mods start off the same way. Strip them down to civilian.
Let's start off by cutting the mag down to fit flush.

The first step is to scribe the mag inner sleeve and the most important part is to stay below the latch notch as shown.

Then you carefully cut the excess material off.

The next part is the mag cover as shown.

Each one is a little different so don't try to do it too fast and take off too much material.

You should end up with something like this.

And now back to the assembled gun.

Very important.....better to take off too little than to leave too little.
Take your time and you will end up with a sleeker gun.

The next posting will be to remove all the excess at the front sight assembly.

Interesting.
I like using the mag protrusions as a brace for my front hand so I'd just leave it as is.... but I'm curious where you will end up with this project!

It's a no no to increase the capacity of the mag to more than 5 rounds but you can do anything else to it. You can change it to a Tapco plastic make believe large capacity removable mag, you can modify it to accept AK mags as long as they are pinned to 5 shots, you can even make it into a single shot etc. No contrary to popular myths, you can cut a mag down instead of pinning it down to 5 shots.

Buy a cheap hunting rifle for cripes sake. What's the point in taking a rugged military carbine and turning it into something "sleek"?... it weighs the proverbial ton and offers no advantage in the bush as a hunting tool.

Cool to see someone doing something original with a gun that everyone is so familiar with. Not just another crapco plastic stock swap.
