Hello all, I had a Mosin fest at the range yesterday, bringing my M-24, 91-30 and Finnish Tikka. It was great, I was all alone with my Mosins and 60 rounds of ammo.
The Tikka shot flawlessly(awesome trigger too). so did the M-24 (not as nice trigger pull) but the 91-30, although quite accurate, had difficulty cycling through the rounds. They seemed to hang-up on something as I tried to close the bolt. The cartridges did a nose dive in the mag-well as if they were held back at the rim(?) The extractor also did'nt want to engage...any ideas?
thanks in advance.

Dismount the action. on a 91.30 you probaly have a 2 piece interruptor assembly. It is held on by one screw. Undo the screw and take out hte two parts. Thoroughly clean them and reassemble the gun. Try cycling some rounds, making sure the rims are properly positioned when you load the mag.

If you are still misfeeding, it is likely the interruptor is bent. Unless you're handy, bring it to a smith.

PS: the interruptor is the little metal tab that protrudes into the magwell that keeps the rounds in the mag as you cycle the bolt. It also doubles as the ejector.

Well I visually compared the interuptor to some of my other Mosins (how do you take those friggin things off anyway?) Everything "looks" fine, but I think I found the culprit, I switched bolts with a Polish M-44 and everything cycled (and extracted) flawlessly.
So I replaced the bolthead with an extra one I had lying around and voila, it worked great....now does this mean I need to check the headspace with this new head? I'm thinking the original extractor is too tight?

Regarding the feeding issue, I think I might have staggered the rims incorrectly. I'm not used to rimmed ammunition.
thanks again
