Mosin ammo experience?

Of the 20+ that I've owned the only one that didn't hit 8" high with light ball, open sights and no bayonet at 100yds is my ex sniper with its taller front sight post. None grouped that well. The only one remotely close is again my ex sniper and that is after a fair bit of accurizing work.

Never fired one with the bayonet on either? Too bad the front sight wasn't like the SKS for adjusting........Harold

mbogo3, consider yourself lucky then, as most 91/30 Mosins shoot 8" high at 100 yds without bayonet unless you have a taller front sight post.
My '43 Sniper has the taller front sight and was spot on with the irons @ 100. Any other I've owned had to be replaced.

Both of mine shoot accurate without the bayonet attached, I don't think I've ever bothered to shoot it with it attached. Haven't bothered to shoot it for groups in ages but I can routinely hit an 8" steel target at 100yds pretty much in the centre.

I have a 1905 dated 91/38 (if properly identified) that shoots a bit high and right with everything I've tried (Pvri Partizan, Chinese, Czech steel core etc). It's always the same area when I aim at the center of the target (so, the rifle, not me). I can't use a standard bayonet on it at all as the front sight was changed to a non-standard type (which is probably part of the conversion for the Czechs). Generally I keep this in mind and just aim a bit low and left.

You know whats a really good, cheap way to raise your front sight post? Electrical wire insulation, 14 gauge works best, colour options as well, cut to size and away you go :)

On the ammo note, tried some chinese couple years ago, too inconsistent with accuracy. Had a few that didnt got bang, think they were late 70's, probably just a bad batch but have steered clear ever since.

Love that Bulgarian 147 gr silver tip, excellent results from my mosin and mosin PU. sometimes you can get lucky on the EE with a close sale, I happen to know a guy with a few cases in Winnipeg but the shipping would probably kill you.

Gotta try it at least once, with the bayo fixed the damn rifle is almost 6 feet long! Haha

I will have to at some point, same with my no1 mk3. I've attached the bayonet to both and it's an awesome sight to see haha. It's just one more thing to bring to the range, which is why I've never shot it with the bayonet on. That and it shoots great without it.

Have any of you tried the adjustable sight from these guys? http://www.euclideanmachine.com/mosinsight.html

Talked to the guy (Travis) via email he's very nice to answer all my questions in detail. I put an order in at 2 weeks ago but I think he's very busy and there's a long lead time on order.

I feel he has put in a lot of work and thoughts into designing the sight. It should be high quality as long as it show up in the mail eventually.

I really enjoy shooting my Polish M44 but I don't shoot for groups.....but for fire-balls. I'm still working my way thru the crate of corrosive surplus.....

On a stock rifle 6 o'clock hold on the bottom of the bullseye with bayonet on. Still a bit high but closer to centre.
I've got a Smith sight on one. Another one I've replaced the front post with 2mm brass rod filed down to POA=POI.
I only scream banzai if the range is packed.

Re: bayonet

Scream "banzai" too

How did you set your sights?
