Anyone do bent bolt handles for Mosin 91/30 rifles?

I bought a complete bolt handle/mid-section for my Sniper repo years ago but I think it is throwing off the headspace because the bolt is very hard to open after firing. This dosen't happen if I swap in the orignal mid-section, so I'd like to get a bent handle put on that instead.

google max shepherd he does alter bolts ..............good price and ships to canada . ive had 4 bolts done and no issues no complaints .

maxshepherdboltproducts.com good luck.

Changing the bolt handle section on a mosin do nothing about headspace as long the original bolt head is kept. You bolt section may have some rough spots making hard to open. Check carefully for anys roughness.

Thanks NB, I'll email him.

I didn't think it would either by looking at it but there is an effect. My primer strikes seem to look odd too.

If it were rough spots, any reason why is it only hard to open after a round has been fired?

If your primer strike look odd, have you check firing pin protusion? Does your bolt is hard to open if you only dry fire the rifle? Remember that the mosin #### on opening so require more force and if anything have some roughness, opening the bolt will be harder.

My pin protusion is in spec. I measured it with two seprate gauges just in case one was off.

With live ammo, loading and unloading is normal. When I fire with the bent handled mid-section installed, the spent casing makes the bolt hard to open.

If I swap in the orignal mid-section and re-insert that same spent casing, the bolt is still hard to open.

On the other hand, if I fire a round with the orignal mid-section the casing ejects normally.

If I take that spent casing and re-insert it in the rifle with the bent handled mid-section installed it will still eject normally.

Only casings fired with the bent handled mid-section installed cause the action to become hard to open, so somehow it is causing the rounds to fire differently from the orignal.

No more shipping to Canada :( Story of my life.

If your dealing a ambitious you could buy a bent bolt handle from westrifle and install it your self or you could ask them nicely if they could do it or ask who did it for them since they have a lot of bent bolt mosins

We still have a lot of bend bolts. We bring those from Russia and install it here. You can buy a kit and do it yourself or give it to gunsmith. Shipping it to us would be non economical as it is expensive.
