hi new to this bought mosin nagant week ago just recieved it,was wonderin am i being to fussy if date of manf is not legible i mean its"19_3"when asking for 1941 or earlier:confused:

Is the reciever round or hexagonal? If its a hex reciever, it must be 1933 or 1923 to fit your partial date stamp. If its round, then it could only be a 1943.

Posting pictures always helps too.

its round

its round if new how to post pics i would sfrc ammosource wont buy from them again

The '43 will shoot as good as a '41 i'm sure. maybe they don't have '41 anymore?? Why would you not buy from them again?

If the machine work on the receiver is very rough as though it were chewed out with an adze then it's very likely 1943 and that would also be why the illegable date stamping.

CALL SFRC AND ASK FOR AN EXCHANGE! No #####ing permitted until you ask and they say "No".

Missing stamps, partial stamps, upside down stamps, stamps over stamps all on a receiver that looks like it was chewed out by an angry beaver.

Minty rifles are lovely (few things better than pre-war manufacture and perfect bluing) but there is something special about wartime manufacture.

.

No offence OP but youve waited this long ot make a post, then all 4 of them #####ing about the same dealer.....
From their website: "If you want a particular year please include it in your comments but I make no guarantees that they will be available."
He promises nothing. And honestly its a $109 dollar rifle, from world war 2, I dont know what you were expecting.

They went to a round reciever during war time to cut down on production time. Machining marks became more prominent and fit / finish generally dropped, all because of the push to get them out to the troops. I would not let it bother you though.... It will shoot just fine. Relax and enjoy it. It's a great rifle, not to mention the muzzle flash will always put a smile on your face.

Regards,
