Wondering if anyone knows how to adjust the firing pin on a 91/30 because I've been inspecting the primers after firing and the pin is hitting way to hard for my liking. Any experience guys? Also SKS could use some backing off as well. Any info would be much appreciated :)

What do you mean by too hard? The impression is too deep maybe? Measure the firing pin protrusion to see if it's in spec or not. Maybe you mean the spring is too stiff? Remember these are Military rifles meant to fire the harder primed Military ammo, if you don't like that look into replacement springs. Should be something available for the Mosin. I've never looked into it as I've just shot my Mosin's as is. Fun guns, I have a Polish carbine and a Russian 91/30.

I thought that both my Mosins (ex-Dragoon M91/30 dated 1924 and my M44) had this issue as well but I have the firing pin protrusion tool and I checked both of my rifles. Both were within the normal specs. It is normal for them to go deep into those primers.

You can dissasemble the bolt.
Once you get the bolt face off, push the tip of the firing pin into a soft piece of wood.
Force down on the cocking handle to compress the spring.
Now you can rotate the rear knob of the bolt which will make the tip of the firing pin either protrude out from the bolt face more, or less if you turn it the opposite direction.

Be carefull though, you don't want it to pierce the primer or push it through the case, it could be bad news for you and your Mosin.

The general rule of thumb I use is, if the slotted disk in the center or the rear cocking knob is flush with the rest of the surface, I have never had a problem.

Are you sure you need to mess with it at all? What is it about the way the pin is striking the primer "too deep" as you say that makes you think it needs to be altered?

The mosin is a crude beast of a weapon Sir, it strikes hard.

One of the primers I inspected(7.62x54R S&B SP)was hit so hard when I looked into the spent case I could see light shining through from the other side. When I did the original inspection and cleaning of the rifle I used the firing pin gauge to check it and it was good so I figured all was well but maybe now I'll try to make it so the pin doesn't hit quite so hard.
