I am rebuilding this gun just picked up today. its a 1915 Westinghouse mosin. it has the fun capture SA marking on it but is untouched. I am not sure of the other prof markings.
do you think this is one of the guns the germans captured and turned over to finland or was a fin capture In the winter war?(there is two big cuts on the side of the receiver too I am not sure if this means anything to anyone.

Hmmm... Looks about right;

You need to give us a lot more information than that. More pics would really help.

Those two cuts on the receiver you mention bring back to mind a bunch of drill purpose rifles that came in about 35 years ago and were not safe to shoot.

Why are you rebuilding it??? You may be ruining some valuable history by doing so. Some of them are pretty beat up but the Finn captures and FTRS, bring a premium price if they aren't fiddled with.

Do you see any German markings on it -if not then probably captured by the Finns either during their Civil War from the Reds, bought or traded for on the open market or captured later.

You've an interesting piece of history. Reconsider refinishing it, or as collectors call it "dicking" with it.

I know about re finishing guns. all I am is about historical guns. this is just a barrel and receiver/trigger . I am not going to reblue it or mess with it. I am just goung to add the parts to it so I can once again shoot it or at least have it in a stock.
