Mosin M44

I think that must have been it...niether of us are mosin experts by any means haha.

And I wouldnt call myself recoil sensitive, but I do notice a lot more felt recoil shooting off the bench with a M44 vs a 91/30.

Thanks for watching guys.

Me tinks you need big strong hands like Russian wrestler to operate safety!! Also Russian Wrestler bigness to no feel recoil from big Russian cannon!!

All kidding aside, great video!! Your buddy probably felt the recoil more as he looks like he's not too big of a fella. Although I find my M91 tends to bruise my shoulder quite quickly, and I'm 6'2" and 275lbs. I think for me it's the fact that the length of pull is too short for my long arms.

3 things:

1 - Awesome Video

2 - Do yourself a favour, head over to Tradeex, and buy yourself for $20 an authentic reproduction rubber Russian recoil reducing butt pad. My M44 pounds me less than my 91/30 sniper (which doesn't yet have an authenticreproductionrubberrussianrecoilreducingbuttpad..)

3 - how did your groups change with the bayonet extended Vs folded? I just bought my (1946 Izzy) M44 last week and have shot it once, with reloads. Other than needing the sight drifted a bit for windage I notice that at ~70 metres it was shooting about 5 inches below point of aim with the bayonet folded, and dead on with it extended (...and to the right, since I didn't have a hammer and punch with me to drift the sight...). Groups also seemed to be tighter with it extended, but I only shot a pair of 10-shot groups.

(ok 4 - tell your buddy to start lifting ;-) )

Thanks! I actually just gave one of those away that came on a mosin I picked up. I like to shoot them the way they were, it may be painful...but it's authentically painfull haha.

And if my buddy bulked up we'd have to stop calling him 90 pounds of pimp...just unacceptable.

It must be your imagination causing this effect.
The M44 is heavier than the 91/30 due to its heavier barrel contour and bayonet arrangement as well as having a slightly beefier fore end to its stock.
The barrel is only 20.4" in the M44 so velocities are lowered in the M44 as compared to a 91/30
Since recoil is a product of the 1st law of physics (for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction) it stands to reason that ejected mass at a lower velocity acting upon a greater mass equals less movement.
