Folks......Trying to decide on a new purchase....The recent 91/30 snipers that came in,..nice rifles?..How do they shoot?..I understand that pretty much all of the rifles with WW2 dated PU scopes have been snapped up,..though P&S and a few others have em....Or perhaps a nice K98 Rusky capture....what say you??

Put a Timney trigger in it and then will be a great rifle. Takes a bit of woodwork but amazing results when finished.

Get both :). But seriously if you have to choose one get the m91/30 sniper's rifle. Get the original as the clones arent very good (or at leas the one i made). One of the main reasons i say this on top of the historical value of it is that you can shoot cheap surplus ammo through it or even non-corrosive russian steel case like mfs at 50 cents a round. While the cheapest mauser ammo i have found that wasnt surplus was ~$1 a round.

I was told that there will be some more coming to at least one of the popular dealers, so be patient and you will have a chance to pick out a good one. Do some research while you wait, you can't learn enough about the variations of these PU rifles.

PS does still have some. I almost bought one from them but managed to find one that was at least in the province and could inspect my self. Don't get bent out of shape over a scope that has a specific date. Some scopes weren't specifically dated even though they are still WWII manufacture.

Here is an example of a scope not specifically dated. Its on the left rifle. A good link for you on scopes if you have not seen it before...

Excellent,thanks!..I have a few other sniper rifles here, including a VZ54 and a Hungarian 9130....both were found here!....The 91/30 I rebuilt was a former Tula CN marked sniper...rifling looks nice, but I have as of yet to shoot her....Think I'll change that on my next set of days off..

I have a repro MN sniper. I bedded it, smoothed the trigger and it is a good shooter. Cheap ammo is available, plus it responds well to handloads.

If you can get a real sniper rifle, rather than a repro, that would probably shoot better and appreciate more.

Damn.,my range outing is on hold until I heal up....more time to decide on a new Izhevsk or Tula made rifle...gents if you have pis of yours..post 'em please.hmmmm any laminate snipers out there..?

I recently purchased a refurbed 1943 Tula PU sniper rifle from J&G Sales down here in the US. Managed to get the rifle to the gun range yesterday morning. Was shooting Sierra .311 174gr Match Kings with 44gr IMR 4064 and Prvi brass. Target was 100 yards away, and I was shooting from a sandbag. Using On Target software, the 4 round group was 0.715 MOA. I moved to a different target for the last round of the day and very, VERY slightly adjusted the scope, and I managed a dead center with my last shot.

I think I can do better, and I need to sort out more reloads. Have been using a Classic Lee Loader for my British .303 and 7.62x54R reloads, and those kits are underrated.

Just for the heck of it, I also took my 1932 RTC-marked Enfield No.2 Mk.1 revolver as well, and was hitting beer cans 4 times out of 5 at 25 yards. Who says these old guns can't shoot straight? Will also pick up a NZ-marked 1942 Long Branch No.4 Mk.1* on Tuesday (prior owner bought it 30 years ago, shot it 10 times, cleaned it and put it away).
