Mosin "made in Russia" stamped on barrrel

Just in front of the rear sight on top of barrel: "KO-91/30 MADE IN RUSSIA"
This seems unusual for a rifle made in 1943. Is this common? Usually only expect this on items made for export.
Could it have been stamped recently? I have picture but don't have permission to post attachments.

Yeah, sounds like U.S. import marks. I have never seen a marking like that that I thought was original.

New imports from Molot Trading Company coming out of Russia are all export marked like that. They are disguised as hunting rifle to get around Russian ban on the export of military firearms, the markings are part of that strategy.

Typical import mark on Mosins brought into USA from Spain. Denotes a rifle which saw service in the Spanish Civil War... also look for a left hand butt marking of "MP" over "8".

- Plain "Made in Spain", was indeed the old 1960's US Import mark.

Usually it was marked under the wood with those stamps. Ive never seen them stamped on top.

Thanks for the answers. This stamp is on the barrel, not the wood. This Mosin was part of recent ammo-mosin combination from SFRC. Took it to the range yesterday and very impressed with it. Lots of fun.

"...unusual for a rifle made in..." Stalin barely spoke Russian. Wouldn't be any stamps in English.
"...Usually it was marked under the wood..." Kind of defeats the purpose of the stamp.

Since Molot imports are coming here who would have 9x54R chambered version?Are they even offered for sale ?

Is the stamping found under the wooden handguard, or in plain view all the time? I saw about twenty 91/30's last week while visiting in the US. They all had very visible English stampings on the top of the recievers which ruins the rifles character.
I can live with non-visible stamping under a handguard, but not right on top in plain view.
