the other day i was at the range firing my mosin when all of sudden the muzzlebrake popped off and flew down the range. Upon closer examination I could see where the bullet had touched the inside of the mosin before exiting barrell, I was really shocked thinking about how sideways things could have gone. Has anyone else experienced this?

All it does is reduce felt recoil a bit, which is a Good Thing for you.... but it P*SSES OFF the rest of the world with your ear-splitting muzzle-blasts.
Guys start shooting full-power rifles with brakes on the range, I go home.
Give them another couple of years and they'll be like me: half-deaf from muzzle blast. Difference is that they won't have the faintest idea why and they'll be deaf enough that they can't hear you when you yell it at them.
I at least have a reason: Firefly yelled at me. But these guys are doing it to THEMSELVES.
That doesn't even make sense.

Don't be to hard on us, Olympia. You bought a cheap, Chinese made, probably NC-Star-brand, soft-steel piece of manure. Even the screws are made of steel that's so low-grade that, if you put any kind of significant torque on them, the thread will be gone. It should come as no surprise that this chunk of fine craftsmanship flew off after a few rounds. In other words, yes, others have experienced the same kind of unfortunate outcome such as which you describe. Some may suggest putting a recoil pad on the stock, or reloading on the light side; in any case, I hope you'll keep your Mosin and enjoy the fine, historically significant, loud, recoil-robust milsurp it is (sans crappy chinese, useless add-on)!
