I am/will be the new owner of a great condition 91/30 Mosin (in the mail currently :D)
I have a Russian M44 and I have fired many types of ammo with it at different distances, so am familiar with the Mosin Nagant platform.
I have been researching the Mosin and it's role in WW2 as a sniper rifle.
I can find no clear distinction (other than an optical scope being issued and affixed to the 91/30) between a Mosin 91/30 and a Mosin 91/30 Sniper Rifle.
Were there any inherent attributes that distinguished a regular Mosin to be issued for use as a Snipers rifle?
Any attributes machined into them that made them more accurate than your standard issue Mosin 91/30?
As far as I can tell any and all 91/30's are regarded as very accurate as far as military surplus rifles go in general.
I was surprised at the lack of info differentiating the two. Even on mosinnagant.net :(
Any help, guidance or education will be appreciated :D

Mosin that shot above average were taken to have optics mounted. There were also pre-planned production orders made for sniper rifles. Izvezk I think?

PU snipers have a High-wall reciever, Some mosin have differen shaped revciever's so mounting the Side-mount scope wouldn't fit right.

Besides the shape of recievers, they are basiclly a Mosin nagant with a scope added. The Mosin rifle's are only as accuarate as their shooters....and the condition of the rifle being used....same for any Scoped/ Un-scoped rifle.

Thanks for the info man.
It's pretty much what I expected from just researching the subject.

Whether it be a Nagant, a K98, a G43, the biggest and only factor to determine if it was good enough to be a sniper was the observation of a grouping of shots by each rifle.
Only the best were selected.

Then the average rifles for use without a scope. And the rejected rifles as well - scrap.
