Tried typing in the mosin nagant to get threads on adjusting the front sight but 90 percent was sks,so at the risk of pi$$ ing off the thread nazies ,Is there anyone who knows how to adjust the front sight on the Mosin. I can see it is threaded and there is a hole in the sight pin ,it is shooting abou 10 inches high and 5 inches right,so I need to raise the pin and slide it right a bit to zero in .I watched a few youtube videos but they are all 14 year olds and didn;t explain anything except that they can get a hex mosin for $89. delivered which just served to piss me off more!d:h::canadaFlag::canadaFlag:

There are alot of common fixes for this, like putting something over the post to make it tall or making a new post. Check in the milsurp forum you'll get some good answers. Its a very common thing for there MN rifles.

you need a tool to do it

you need a front sight tool. it is similar but not the same as the sks front sight tool. jump over to surplus rifle .com for the way to alter the sight pin. it is not threaded as it came from the factory but it can be modified.

I had the same problem. The first thing I did was remove the front sight with a bronze punch and a hammer.
Put the front sight in a vice and put a smaller punch through the hole in the sight hood and tap the sight post out the bottom of the sight. You can see that it's got a beveled shoulder at the bottom of the post. I ground this shoulder off with a Dremel tool till it was almost the same diameter as the upper part of the post. I put the post back in the sight and drove it in farther than it originally was. It doesn't matter if you put it in too high, because you can use the rear sight to control elevation.
You can see the difference between the one I raised and a stock one. I shaped the tip of the post a bit with a file to my liking. The drill mark is for a set screw later. You don't need a set screw with this mod . I just put a drop of Lock-tite under the post.

Sorry you were right,I also had the sks out and it was threaded not the mosin, got the same problem with the sks.Great info folks ,thanks,I will try these things.
Cheers Bob

I got this idea from another site. I can't remember which one. My original plan was to have multiple posts and a set screw, and change them. This way was easier and less obtrusive.
I'm waiting for the official "Skirsons Approved" before I re-blue it. :D
