Hi there folks,
to clarify, and to sort of organize my thoughts here,
how many types of receivers are there?

Hexagon
Octagon
Round
High Wall ?

or are High Wall and Round the same thing?

And PU mounts are best put on High Walls?

thanks for any clarification here.

Hex receiver is a misnomer. They are actually octagonal.

All Hex receivers are low-wall.

Round receivers can be either high-wall or low-wall. to properly mount a PU, you should use a high-wall receiver.

Clear as mud?

I think there is alot of confusion here.....hiwalls and lowwalls are both single shot actions..actually Win. model 1885...they were made in diff. thicknesses and diff. shapes where the barrel threads in. This really is of little or no consequence as scopes are usually mounted on the barrel. Collectors may be concerned, same with thick side or thin side. In addition there are many replicas that stray from date correct features. It sounds like you are confusing models vs.features?? My lowwall has a rd. receiver and later style breech block(blued and contoured) and it was made in 1901. My highwalls show all diff. variations as to thickness/shape/etc. My c. Sharps highwall is thickwall and oct. rec. i hope I haven't confused the issue, it's just that i don't think you have an understanding of the 1885. The reference to a Mosin Nagant really has me baffled???

well.
with all due respect i think you are the one who is confused..
im not talking about Win 1885s at all.

I'm referring to the different shapes that Mosin Nagant receivers are in.

Right...I get your drift....I have a Highwall Cooey with a round receiver so I can see your point....i thought it was just someone that was confused, I should have known better, anyone who owns a moisin nagant, knows everything about quality rifles.

It's ignorant to to think that because someone owns a mosin they don;t also have more expensive rifles.

I've had a high-wall before, currently have a rolling block and a sharps, and I have lots of mosins.

Obviously anyone who owns a Cooey knows everything about quality rifles.

Afterall, the average price of a Cooey right now is definitely higher than a Mosin's.
