I've never owned a 1891. I would like to buy an early one --like made before 1915. Preferably less than 1900. Are these available in Canada? Do they come up often? Anything special I need to know?
Thanks for any help.

Even later ones like 1910 to 1915? My great grandfather most likely used one in WWI. At least I know they exist. What sums to they command?

You are generally looking for a Finn-capture Russian M91, many of them are early. Sometimes (extremely rarely) you see a refurbished early dragoon dressed up as a 91/30 mixed in with the usual refurb WW2 rifles.

All the m91s I have seen have been Finn Captured, as the Russians converted theirs to 91/30 specs, They are diffently rifles with an adventure filled past

Original Russian M91s are actually really hard to obtain - Finn refurbs are around and you can find them WW1 or occasionally earlier dated, just keep watching the EE. I have a very rough unFinned 1896 Tula that looks like a Spanish Civil War vet and it's one of the few I've seen.

I've got two rebuild fins. One is an 1894 chalerault (excuse the spelling) on a 1927 Tikka stepped barrel. And a 1985 tula with a 1944 Tikka m91/30 barrel.as others said the fins are usually what you'll find

I currently have a Soviet made M91 Infantry re-manufactured in 1926 on a 1898 receiver. 'Made' is subjective. Do you want it as it was originally put out of the factory, or just a early receiver date?

Many earlier dated Mosin Nagants were reworked into other rifles (usually because of damage or re-manufacturing into a newer pattern). The Finns for example re-used receivers from many guns and different models can be found with receivers from many different years.

Be honest....I'm not sure what I want. I found an old pic of my great grandad with what appears to be 1891. Ideally I guess I would like to have the one that he used(impossible). Not withstanding that--i guess ill try to find one that has at least a receiver stamp before 1900. Off to equipment exchange I go.

I wanted to buy a Mosin made before 1914, but couldn't find it and after a while settled on earliest I could find - 1934. I've seen as early as 1921 later on, but it doesn't make much difference, so I still looking for a pre-WWI as well, but I guess if I find one not refurbed too badly it would be too expensive for me : )

I have Finn M91 build on 1895 or 98(I can't remember) with counterbored 1941 VKT barrel. It has Russian one piece stock and it's one of my better cast shooters.

I love Konovalov sights on those rifles. For me the are the best irons to use.Way easier to use than Mauser.
