Tried one of these today for the first time. Impressive. Lots of kick...as it is a carbine after all, small and light, and still pounding the 7.62x54

Two questions for the group:

1/ Is the modern day ammo in 7.62x54 corrosive?

2/ Are the cleaning rods that sit below the barrel easy to get (this one didn't have one)?

Cheers,:sniper:

This thread should be in milsurp section actualy, but i'll still answer.

1/ Is the modern day ammo in 7.62x54 corrosive?

All military surplus 54R ammunition is corrosive, but commercial production isn't; around here I've seen Seller & Bellot and Igman (which i use for my SVT-40) Here is an information page on many types of 7.62x54R ammunition available

2/ Are the cleaning rods that sit below the barrel easy to get (this one didn't have one)?

That one is trickier, i've quickly checked on numrich in USA and while they don't seem to have any for the 1938 carbine I've looked around and they got some for the chinese type 53 carbine, a local version of the 1944 carbine which is identical to the 1938 model except for the added folding bayonet. Here you go.

If you like look around 7.62x54r.net They've got about any details about Mosin-Nagants you can think about
