Have a special marking witch is number 1 in a triangle that indicated an east german quality #1 as far as i know.

The 1 in a triangle indicates the 1871st ABV Moscow Military District arsenal in Liski where your Mosin was refurbished. Has nothing to do with East Germany.

But I can be wrong i'm still looking for answer....

That's exactly the reference I based my response on. This has been well known for some time for people interested in Mosins let alone collectors!

Hi Larry. Sorry to bother you on this thread about something unrelated, but I've tried responding to your offer and it says your mailbox is full. Specifically "caporal has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space".

I agree to your terms on the deal. I just am unable to do it via PM and wanted you to know I wasn't ignoring you. Thank you.

Space cleared now...

M44's have not appricated as much as the 91/30s in recent times it seems. Meanwhile M38's are hot items..... My guess when it comes down to it is that in Canada value is added by the ability to hunt with the rifle. M38s make fine hunting carbines while M44's are not unless the bayonet is removed. just my theory, 91/30's can be used for hunting as well so are doing somewhat better.

I would have expected with 91/30s rising to the $300 +/- price point that M44's would be in the $6-700 range but not so yet....

I think the M38 is tapped out around $550 unless there's something crazy special about it. I may provoke a response from other collectors but it was primarily a weapon for peasants and old women, behind the lines. Purists might think it was a CQB gun but really it was born out of the shortage of material. Fast to make, common parts with a 91/30 and no pig sticker.
You want an expensive M38? Maybe look for a 91/38 or a SA marked gun, maybe an early or late Tula. I like the M38 over the M44 just because it doesn't have the bayonet.

The M38 is a fine firearm...easily one of my favorite myosins. It's the mosin I'd take with me hunting were I to take one.
-it's a great guest gun for the end of there day with it's small size big recoil and fireball
- it's pretty accurate with MFS 203gr soft points easily deer/moose worthy
- its light and 100% reliable
- no bayonet to remove to be hunting legal

+1 to the guest gun. It makes a great impression on those observing the fireball and they all line up to shoot it!
Love that gun at the range!!
