Bought an M44 two weeks ago from a board member, great little gun.

The metal is like new, floorplate is forced match but everyting else match.

Barrel is very good , only very minor pitting.

I was shooting seated on sandbags at 50 metres ( I know its lame but the 100 yard targets are burried under snow ).

Was getting under an inch easy at 50 meters, my best buy to date

Nice looking carbine Simon, like new.

I bought a Polish one a few weeks ago, I've just this minute come in from shooting it. I had a bit of a problem with stringing at first so I floated the barrel and bedded the action, it's fine now. I am still working with loads but have found that it will shoot four shot 1" groups at 100 with a hornady 174 grn bullet and 39grns of IMR 3031. For some unexplained reason it shoots to the same point of impact with 150 grn hornady's with the same charge, but the accuracy is not as good.

Here's a pic of my best buy to date.

I have a Polish M44, was new when I bought it. All I have done to it is take off the bayonet and she shoots like a dream. Using factory Igman 150 grain SP loads she will shoot 2.5" 5 shot groups at 100 meters using the iron sights. With handloads I hope to shrink that down to 1.5" or so.

Spencer: Not sure why you had to free float the barrel as they are fully free floated from factory. Try taking off the bayonet, that helped my rifle with the accuracy and made it much easier to fit in the safe. In my case, there was no point of aim shift with the bayo off.

DAR 701

I know it should have been floating but it was not, the the barrel was under considerable pressure from the wood underneath, so much so that when I had freed it the point of impact dropped by 18" at 100. I had to shim the underside of the pillar in order to get the barrel off the wood. If I had attempted to do it by just removing wood from the stock there would not have been a lot of stock left at the muzzle end.
That being said, I think it's a great little rifle, it has everything, it's extreemly accurate, It shoots a very good round, the overall quality of manufacture is first class, it has a unique stlye, and cost a pittance.

PS I like the bayonet, it's part of it's charm.
