Ok ok so I am only over a month late on posting this.

Looky what I got for Christmas, ya I know kinda late but better than never:p

The date stamped on it is 1942, I also did get the chance to do some checking up on some of the markings stamped on the barrel but I can't remember off hand what the name was:redface:
PArts have been electro penciled but I am far from worried about that, it turns out to be a far better shooter than I was ever expecting.

this was five shoots from a hundred yards with my reloads. I think with more practice I could get this group even smaller.
SO far I have been able to hit the gong at two hundred yards most of the time, when I can see it that is, and the gong at three hundred yards about half the time when and if I can see it;)

Oh ya almost forgot, what gun picture is complete with out feet and socks in it.:D

Nice looking rifle Russ. My Polish M-44 is also a great shooter with handloads. What is your best recipe ?

I just bought another Polish M-44 on the EE, I could not resist it. The Mosin Nagants have got to be the best bargains ever

So far the recipe that works best is 43 grains of reloader 15 pushing a 150 grain Hornady sp bullet. With this load I have found that it shoots 6" high at 100 yards, about 10" high at 200 yards and aprox 18" at 300 yards.
I wouldn't mind putting a scoping it but only if I could find something very close to the sniper set ups or even the real thing, but for now I am more than happy as it is. Should I decide to leave it as is I want to see about fitting something over the front sight post so as to lower the zero a bit. I wonder if I could find some copper capillary tubing, even plastic or rubber, that would fit good and snug over that post.
I have to admit tho there is nothing more satisfying than hiting the gongs at 200 and 300 yards, with open sights, and having that report come back at you a couple of seconds later.

And to add a few things.
Just after I got the Mosin Nagant I completely stripped 'er down and apart for a cleaning, the first thing that went through my mind was WOW I can not believe how simple they kept everything, I mean it is almost stupidly simple!:p

I was struck by the same thing. Designed for illiterate pesants who could service a plow and needed something just as simple

You should slug the bore and see if you can shoot 7.62 or 303 bullets.

Most nagant boeres are >0.308.

I load the 7.62 123g SP in mine.

Yup, I slugged the bore and I can use 303 bullets. Just after Christmas I found some hunting ammo, bought for the brass of coarse, at one of the gun shops down town but the bullet dia was 308. The groups I was getting with that were about 8", the boxs were green and had the name Bell on it and the primers were crimped:D Boy, triing to push that first primmer in sure was intresting!!

I use the Hornady 172gr. .3105'' FMJBT in most of my Mosins and Lee-Enfields.
Some Tikkas seem to prefer .3095 or .310'' bullets; had great results with 150gr. .308'' A-Max with Varget in these. I guess the bullets bases upset with the faster powder and give good obturation.
Tried some Nosler J bullets and they were great, too.

Try shooting with the bayonet on the rifle

All the military eifles were sighted in with a bayonet attached to the muzzle.

Most rifles will print 2 to 4 inches higher without a bayonet in place. Yes- i know we are shooting at the range with these old battle horses now but the comment still is valid.

Hmmmmm, ya, now that is an idea.
But I have tried to fit the bayonet on it is way to tight to slip easly or even with a bit of effort, I can get it on about have way then it just stops and almost gets stuck and I don't want it on there if I need to hammer it off.
But as I was typing this I just realized that I could take that bayonet to the shop that I work at get 'er to fit on nice.:dancingbanana:
Ya good idea terryinvictoria:cheers:

Also would some one beable to point me in the right direction as to where I could buy some stripper clips? Or even some place that would have plans so I could build my own.

Thanks again
