Is there a thread on CGN regarding the Mosin Nagant, simar to the sks and svt sticky threads? I'm looking to do some more reading on the Mosin and its variants before I decide to buy one or more.

So far I'm eyeballing Westrifle, Can.Ammo, Corwin Arms and Trade Ex for individual prices or rifle and ammo packages. Is there anywhere I'm forgetting online that I should look at as well? I figure if I end up with a 91/30 and either M38/44 I'll need a crate of x54r as well.

I will look around the EE locally too, good idea.

I guess my next question should be who has the nicest condition Mosins, CanAm has a good deal on a 91/30 and a 1000rnds of norinco x54r that's corrosive and I'm pretty sure shippings inc. for $399

Excellent source of info in a glossary format at the top of the page. Unlike the confusing sticky clusterfargern that they have here.

Its my opinion that Westrifle has the nicest Russian rifles, but I've only bought 15 or 20 from them.

don't forget to buy a good butt pad for the stock. The kick like a mule

I don't mind the recoil from standing, sitting, or kneeling - you just need to know how to roll with it... But from prone or when really bearing down bench shooting, it gets old, fast.

My solution was to get a Bore Stores gun sock in musket length. Keeps it nice and ding free in the safe and when travelling, and when I take the rifle out to shoot, just flip the gun sock over my shoulder. Provides just enough padding to take the ouch away from prone shooting.

Why do people think it kicks?

I'm not a big guy, 6 ft and 175 on as good day. Its a heavy rifle with a 150gr bullet. I can shoot it all day long in a T-shirt. Even 200gr soft points are not too bad. I don't know what Girl Scouts you were talking to?

Anybody buy a 91/30 from Canadaammo, can you tell me the overall quality of the rifle you recieved?

If I buy the 91/30 & 1000rd crate of x54r from can am and a m38 from westrifle it puts me at $759 before taxes vs all three from westrifle = 91/30 + m38 + 880rds of x54r at $789 before tax. Both have free shipping and I'll get another 120 rounds with can am in the equation, but if westrifle has nicer Mosins I'll pay the extra $30.

Or I can get the 91/30 & m38 from westrifle, the 1000rds from can am and come in at $789 again. I already have x54r ammo I run in my svt40, so I'm good to go for a bit in that dept. It all comes down to condition of the rifles for me I guess.

You make it sound so confusing with all the package deals. Get yourself a nice looking 91/30 and go from there. Ammo is really an after thought that will re-occur. However, if you choose to hunt, Westrifle has 203gr LVE soft point ammunition that is pretty darn accurate.

I don't think it's that confusing really, I want to order everything in one shot. Buying everything from Westrifle is $30 more but with less ammo, splitting it between Westrifle and CanAm either saves me money or works out to be the same but with more ammo. Depending on what I buy from either vendor.

I'm just curious as to the fit and finish of CanAm's 91/30, seems like Westrifle has nice Mosin's but I have no clue about CanAm. I generally like to see what I'm buying in person, I picked out my sks and svt and couldn't be happier.

Don't assume that rifle(s) and ammo will be in the same shipment even if ordered together. Some use different carriers as not all will ship ammo, but have a preferred carrier for rifles. Best to double check first.

That's not a concern of mine, I'd expect separate carriers. Canada post doesn't ship ammo anymore iirc.

I'm not a big guy either 5'9" at 175. I have found that us little guys move more with the recoil than big guys. So I'm guessing they absorb more! My 110lb son has shot my mosin, it shoves him back 6"-8". He felt it but it didn't hurt per say. Just my observation ,ymmv. Either way they are a blast to shoot!!!!
