SFRC has Mosin Nagant 91/30s for $130. Impossible to resist at that price. Any year or configuration/type that is better than others? I'll likely leave it stock and just ring gongs with it, but can you scope it or put peep sights on it? Is it possible/worth it? Thanks.

Pre war mosin are usually better in fit&finish than war time production, even a war time refurb can be a little bit rough, but at $130, its mainly a shooter grade so you want to get a nice bore without damage in the muzzle area, the crown must be spotless.

Try reading the mosin roulette thread. As for scoping, if you want to do that, buy an already-assembled mosin sniper repro. More cost effective.

At the very least check out 7.62x54r.net. Its well organized and can bring you up to speed relatively quickly.

But like SVT40 said - at that price your getting a basic shooter unless you luck out. Go with the best bore, barrel and muzzle you can get. No nicks on the crown.

This is what i was thinking of doing, the only thing I wish I had done when I bought one of those mosins was get one with a bent bolt, if you ever plan on scoping it that at least should be done, can be done after, but I am loathe to drill and tap the part, and it will cost about 70$ to get it done (unless anyone knows any other hints)

SO to tally

90 for scope mount
200-250 on ebay for a scope)
70 for a bent bolt

Cost effective, maybe maybe not, but defintly less hassle for almost no to no savings
