I'm looking for a recoil pad for the butt of my 91/30 but I'm not sure what to get or what ones will fit. From what I've seen, there are 2 styles, one that attaches with screws and one that is a slip on. I'm not sure which style is the best. The slip on seems the easiest to use, but the hardest to find one that fits properly.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what to use, or let me know what you have on yours.

I haven't fired it since i got the new recoil pad, but i got the one that attaches with the buttstock screws. It was super easy to put on, remove 2 screws from old steel plate, put them back in with the new pad.
While i agree the mosins kick isn't absolutely horrible, i, like the OP, prefer not to get hammered repeatedly, and don't feel bad about it, and an added bonus to the recoil pad is that it adds about an inch to the length of pull, which most russian rifles really need as we're not malnourished peasants wearing 3 layers of thick wool.
I like the feel of the screw on one, but if you want slip on i have heard that the small sized limbsavers fit the mosins well.

I had one of the screw-on recoil pads on my Mosin. I took it off again, because I found the bolt too hard for my short arms to comfortably reach and actuate(?). Also, the recoil is actually quite manageable. If the OP is anywhere near Elmira, Ontario, are you interested in trying my recoil pad on your Mosin? (Try before you buy?)

I got this from Amazon. It fits both the SKS and SVT40. You have to stretch it to fit the butt stock.

I'm using a generic pad, works great, unlike some here I find the recoil stout and appreciate the difference the pad makes, plus it lengthens the stock to better fit my length of pull.

Whenever I hear someone playing down the recoil of a Mosin rifle ... I just hear is as "macho man bravado, I am a better shooter than you pewnies"

Or else they don't put a hundred rounds through it during a bench session. Even stout cast reloads have a cumulative effect when you can't move with the rifle.

How long have those been on amazon.ca? Seems like only a few months back I couldn't find the things there and, of course, the .com store won't ship such dangerous items to us.

+1 to that
