Hey all, I picked up a rather fugly yet intriguing firearm today at the local gunshow. It looks to be based on an early production Mosin and the vendor told me that it's a single shot .410.
The price was right so I took a chance, I like oddities and won't be too disappointed if it turns out to be a wall hanger.
There are markings on the barrel shank that leads me to believe that it might be a 12.0x75R conversion.
The bore is smooth and bright, overall a clean and tight gun.
If anyone has an idea what it is...and if I can indeed shoot .410 shotshells out of it please post a reply.
I'll try to post the album here...

Thanks!! I hope the album link works...

I see belgian proof marks on the barrel shank.
Bolt handle appear to be modified original pattern.
What is the date on the receiver tang?

I know Berdan rifles were being actively converted to shotguns in pre-war USSR but not aware of MOsin Nagant conversions.

I've tried to completely disassemble it but can't seem to separate the stock from the action. I'll keep trying because I see more letters stamped on the underside of the barrel.

Well, I would say it's an 1891 MN, rebarreled to fire shot shells. Might be something special such as the shot shells made up for the No1 Lee Enfields?

Check the chamber depth. Likely chambered with one of the short .410 cases

The stock looks to be a purpose built sporter and the trigger guard looks to be of a generic sporting type from the 1920s era.

I can still see a partial Czarist crest.

Hmmm...I have never seen one... maybe a custom conversion... lots of restrictions on rifle calibers in Europe, could it be a conversion to a non-rifle caliber ?
Not entirely sure why it would be done, but still neat all the same....is it single shot or will .410 shells fit in the magazine...??
