Mosin Nagant stock crack question

I repaired a M38 by stripping the stock. It was cracked at the base of the receiver about 3 inches... this was not disclosed by the seller on EE and all pictures were of different angles....
Once stripped I drilled a small drill hole at the end tip of the crack and put a brass pin in there snipping it to length and sanding down the rough edge of the pin so it was flush to the stock.. I used gorilla glue from home hardware mixed with the sawdust from the bored hole and some dust I got from a piece of wood that I drilled some holes in.
It was kind of an all at once job I used a string injecting glue into the seem of the crack while inserting the glued pin. Then took some rubber hospital tourniquets and tightly wrapped them along the crack and held the stock for a good hour. After I refinished the stock with true oil and it turned out pretty good. The brass pin I used was actually a brass nail bought in a picture hanging kit at the dollar store. I have a whole kit left of different sizes pins if I ever have the same issue in the future with other stocks. I have fired a couple hundred rounds thru the rifle since and the repairs held up great. It's obviously fixed but hold tight so no issues at all. Even hit Chinese surplus has not cracked it open again. Make sure your screws are in tight before shooting and it should be fine.

Looking at the picked I'd say the rifle was dropped on its butt end rather hard at some point.

The crack may get bigger I just opened on picture for what I saw
Shooting a cracked stock rifle will likely worsen the crack. I'd fix it personally before shooting it.
Happen to help you after the moose hunt if your in the general GTA area.

OP, that crack in the stock of the rifle in the pic is nasty. The stock looks to have been refinished at some point so you don't have to be that careful

Get into it with a pick, like a thin metal scribe and scrape it out to get rid of the crud.

Take some Gorilla Glue and thin it down with water. Work it into the crack, apply some clamping pressure and leave it sit overnight. Use decent pads so the clamp jaw faces won't leave dents.

The Gorilla Glue will do its thing and foam up, filling the crack. Scrape the excess glue with a razor blade. SCRAPE it, don't cut it.

This should fill that crack and make it strong.

I've seen stocks just like you have come apart during firing. If your lucky all it will do is get sloppy. If you're unlucky you could be in for some serious, maybe personally disfiguring damage.

Your Call.
