Mosquito stuff.

does nobody use the head mesh nets anymore? I bought a few new ones this week. I like Deet but I always get it on my sunglasses and have killed a few pairs by accident with it.

they always seem to get holed and the skeeters seem to get through the holes- we had headnets in the boonie hats in nam, - you just pulled down on the inner rim, like a beekeeper, and there was always an infitisimal hole somewhere- abd i don;t know what they were made of, but it reminded me very much of CHEAP women's panti-hose- all it took was one run- most of the guys preferred repellent b/c it worked and you could also put it on the hands/arms- the best "veils" were made by the french and mostly used by snipers

no, b/c there's supposed to be 24 hours between applications according to the "experts" , however, i've seen the new stuff go south in as little as 4 hours - that may be sweat, or whatever- the trouble is when you combine the real stuff with SUNSCREEN- that's when the toxin are made apparently- you see, when deet was developed, there wasn't such a thing as sunscreen

I think they work great, particularly indoors if you break the packaging rules.

Run one in a 800 sq foot cottage for a few hours and EVERY mosquito in the place is DEAD.

Last year I figured out an easy and safe way to refill the butane cartridges, now I see there are many tutorials on YouTube.

I have been surfing for a while and came up with two different ways to do the refill, I think I might try the one where the guy installs a new valve on the bottom of the bottle.
But I have one issue, where are you buying just the pads without the bottles ??? I don't think I have seen any stores locally at least that sell just the pads.

For commercially available repellents in Canada I don't think you can beat the Watkins stuff.

this is a copy and paste from another forum i snoop in..

got a brain fart the other day for the therma cells. You can already buy the curling iron butane bottles alot cheaper. What if you could replace the pads so you dont have to buy new refills. Well you can....The repellant solution on the old pads is Pyrethrin. What if you soaked the old pads in a solution of Pyrethrin to renew them?????? Well you can....You can buy Pyrethrin Dip at a pet store and resoak the old pads to renew them, and let them dry. Now you have cheap fuel and cheap pads. I knew there had to be a way!!!!!OBTW I dont know if you know to use the cheap fuel as a body heater to keep warm in the winter, but they work great! pass this tip on

I tend to use more butane than pads, often from leaving the unit on longer than I am supposed to, mostly on the picnic table unit.
I wouldn't try the second valve, sounds dangerous for something that is almost always against your body.
On an empty cell it takes about two minutes to yank out the brass valve on top, drill out the check valve and refill it.
I can not find my original post, but here is a site where someone borrowed my original post.
