Mossberg 500 Tactical Tri-Rail 20" Adjustable Tactical Stock
or
Mossberg 590A1 with adjustable stock

whats the diff?

Which one should I get ?

I just bought a 500 thunder ranch, it came with the fab defense tri rail and it was hard on the hands when it recoiled so I threw a houge forend on and its smooth shooting now.

Differences; 590a1 is parkerized and has a metal trigger group. I don't think the 500 has the metal trigger group. At least mine doesn't. My 500TR is parked but I don't know about the 500 you're referring too. Also I'm not a fan of M4 type stocks on a mossy because of where the safety is on top of the receiver. But that's just me.

You could always consult the mossberg website for more accurate info.

I can't tell you how or on what to spend your money, if you can fondle them both and then go from there. Good luck.

I dont use the safety. Its loaded when i intend to shoot and its not when idont intend to shoot. No need for a satety anyway.

Tough call. I have the A1 Blackwater and two 500 tacticals and love them all to tears, I guess just depends if you want the bigger mag on the 20" 500 or the heavier barrel/metal trigger assembly on the A1.

A1 also has the heavy-duty thicker barrel
Gotta ask, why did they go with a heavier barrel on the 590a1, I have a 590 and it seems robust, I don't think I would want it heavier unless they have been blowing up barrels! I wonder if it's for door busting or something, that would make sense, but I won't be bustin door so mine is fine ;0) I have 1, 500 and 2 590's, the 590 action feels like silk compared to the 500 but folks say the 500 just needs a couple hundred rounds down the tube and it will feel the same not to say the 500 is rough,, but I can feel the difference!

I think it's mostly just to call it "heavy duty". Some is likely for heat. I can fire my 590A1 about twice as many times as my 870 with the same level of barrel heating. The thicker barrel in my opinion, helps keep the gun more forward heavy which is my preference.

Yea that makes sense, never fired mine enough to warm it up yet but can see how it could happen, thanks!

Apparently it was added at the request of the navy, dunno if it really makes much of a difference. The regular barrels seem robust enough.

I have a 590A1 18.5" with a mag. extension. I can put 8 rounds down range real quick and the barrel is only slightly warm to the touch.

Mine's the same, 18.5 with mag extension. My 870 Wingmaster has the same capacity, same barrel length. If I ring them both off rapidly, the wingmaster's regular barrel will be hot to the touch and the 590A1 will be barely warm. Empty the mag a couple more times rapidly and the difference becomes much more apparent.
