Mossberg 100 ATR A good rifle for the price?

So i am looking to buy my first bolt action for deer or bear hunting and i dont really have a lot of money so i looked on cabelas and they have it for 399 plus tax. It comes in 30-06, know my uncle told me to go with a 300 WIN MAG if I could even though he hunts with a 30-06 anyways so does anyone have any thoughts on this gun and the price range and also anyone know anywhere to get a good deal on guns since i live in ontario and the prices are outrageous thanks

I would recommend the Stevens 200 for the same money. Nobody has accessories for a mossberg, As a hunting rifle both would work fine, but there are anecdotes of inferior quality with the mossberg. Not sure if the Savage is available in 30-06

Nothing wrong with a 30-06. It will kill any big north american game just fine - if you can hit it.

There have been a few threads about the night train. The general concenous is they are not reliable and the bolts have even been known to blow apart.

The Stevens 200 is the best value and reliability for a budget rig right now. They are not as pretty, but I highly recommend them.

Another choice Savage 110fcn/111fcxp, they can be had for $480-600 depending on the caliber and some even come w/ scope and mounts.

its only $550 for either .308 or 30-06 @ P&D - that includes the scope and mounts. Any of these will work on any game in Ontario. Forget about the 300win.
