Hey guys,

I am looking at getting a rifle, probably a .308, in a "tactical" model. I noticed on Mossbergs website that they have a .308 rifle, the "night train" that has a scope and bipod. Is this something worth considering?

I would use the rifle mostly for target shooting. The MSRP shown on the website is 510 USD so probably pay something like 600 here?

heres a link to the website.

i would recomend a remington or a savage, they both have rifles in that price range, and both would make far better target rifles, there are way more upgrade options for them vs the mossberg.

x3 for the savage...or a remmy I guess. you can pick up and sps tactical or a 10fp or a 12vlp or bvss and you will get 3 times the rifle

not only that if you go the sagae route for what 100 bucks more then the listed price you get a barrel and action thats used by a number of police agancys and is one of the best values in rifles according to gunblast magazine is one of the makers they usualy buy the rifles they are loaned to review top of the line and with the acturigger comming in with zero creap at 1.5 lbs and end user ajustable all they way up to six i can't see why any one would by any thing else

savage's factory f class rifles won a major turniment this year and mystic player is doing well with his custem pushing it out to moa first time out to that distance with his 6.5 mystic at 2400 yeards and able to control the rounds savage is the way to go try getting they're with that night train when the guy i mention did it with a 200 stevens

go with the savage man no one's complaining about savages i have heard some people complaining about remingtons

After watching one of the F/TR's in 6.5X284 put 5 shots through the same hole last night, I'd have to give it to Savage that they are doing something right!

the second link you posted there is not aheavy barrel but if you don't mind then giver any of the model 12's would work wonderful you can gaet a 12fv for 620 bucks

Lebarons is offering the HS rifle for around $950 minus whatever member discount you can weasle. That is dirt cheap for a ready to go tactical rifle that will shoot very well.

If you don't like the stock, buy a FV and whatever stock floats your boat.

The world of tactical optics is growing you well that Leupold is not the only game in town. There are many choices, several which are considerably less $$$.

I have never played with these Mossbergs but the nod goes to Savage or Rem simply due to the vast aftermarket available.

How come the HS (10fcp) without a scope and bipod goes for 1000 and the HS (10fcpxp) with a scope and bipod goes for 2500. ????? Are the scope, bipod, and case worth 1500?

I am just getting in to the firearms "hobby" so I am trying to figure these things out. looking at the specs and what not of the rifle looks like chinese to me, all I see is .308, I like the black stocks "tactical", understand the accutrigger, and thats about it. Its been a bit of a live and learn ordeal. Started off .22, bought some shotguns, now looking to get into rifles. Oh and almost died when my norinco shotgun blew up in my hands.

Anyway, thanks for the input guys, it is appreciated. I'm decided on a Savage.

Leupold tactical scopes are very expensive. Plus it comes with a hard case and other basic accessories.

Look at the many posts here and you will find numerous ways to achieve your goal.

Personally, I would get the HS if you like the stock and look around for better deals in optics.

Also, $300 Pelican hard case is a bit overkill for my needs.
