Just got my 14" Mossberg factory barrel kit, it was unusual as there were 3 pieces of sealed cardboard containers with nothing inside... hoping everything that's supposed to be there, is actually there. It appears that everything's there. Here's what's listed on the sponsor's site that I purchased from:

Those 3 pieces of cardboard are just extra sturdy packing pieces to keep things from moving around- totally normal. Mine showed up the exact same way.

Holy f@ck, the old mag tube doesn't want to budge. I'm assuming it has thread locker in there. Maybe a heat gun could melt it without hurting the bluing? Any tips on the mag tube removal? Not really wanting to use wrenches to scrape it all up.

Table mounted vise , put a chunk of 2x4 in the vise , put the gutted receiver on the 2x4 , use heat gun on receiver , it didn't hurt the finish on mine , and you should be able to turn it by hand , being careful not to burn yourself .

Everything Greenhorse six said. Get one of those strap wrenches. If it doesn't grip enough use some hockey tape and strap onto that. Heat er up a bit and give it a couple hard jerky movements with the wrench. Should break the seal and be easy from there.

You can heat it up with a propane torch.

When it gets hot enough, the red loctite with start to smoke and burn off.
You can then unscrew the tube quite easily.

Make sure you remove everything else from the gun (trigger group, stock, etc.) before you start with the torch.

The easiest and least damaging way to remove the tube is simple: hold the tube/receiver junction over a stove burner on medium heat and turn it occasionally to apply even heat. Allow it to warm up until you start to feel the receiver get hot (but not scalding hot by any means). Give the mag tube a firm twist and it will thread out. You don't need to burn out the thread locker with heat, you just need to soften it enough to allow the tube to break free.

Edit: the reason to do it this way is that you don't need to remove the stock, which will give you something substantial to hold while you break the mag tube free!

My slide's fairly tight, anybody else?

My first one was kind of tight , I greased the action bars , that seem to help a little , on my 2nd one , the action is like butter .
Not sure if it has any thing to do with why , but the first one , the receiver was the matt finish and the 2nd one it's a shiny blue finish .
Also , the 1st gun is a newer one with a U prefix in the serial # , the blued one being an older gun with a T prefix , unsure if that has anything to do with it or not , just a observation .

In the backroom ready for action. About to heat up the magtube to get it off...

Of course, I used a heat gun and it still won't budge...

My mag tube was tough to take off as well. I used duct tape wrapped around it and a pair of vise grips to twist it off.

And my slide is also noticeably tighter than my longer barrel 590a1

I got it off. Needed vice grips and another gloved hand tugging on it. She's off... this Field model had a wooden mag block inside. There sure was a lot of thread locker in there...

Finished Result! 500 Field w/Wood furniture and 14" parkerized Heavy barrel/mag tube

That looks fantastic.

I'm glad to see there was no interference with the wood forend and the barrel lug.

That could be it. This one's new and matte finished too. I'll just keep on lubing and racking till it loosens up.:shotgun:

I've had the same field model for a year now and wondered how good it would look with a 14" kit on it. You've just confirmed it. Thanks, for posting a pic.

If anyone bought the "Classic Field" and has this walnut furniture that they beat up, PM me. I could refinish the crappy Birch that the Field came with, but I'd rather find the good stuff, which is also setup for the short action bars.

Thanks. Wood forend is longer but the longer part travels over the receiver. No issues.

This one's pretty smooth. I lubed it up pretty good when I had everything disassembled.
