does anyone know how to determine if a Mossberg model 1500 rifle has had the recall work done on its bolt? The gun in question appears to fall in the serial number range for a recall but Howa industries says the gun is not affected while Mossberg tells us to ship it to them in Texas (after waiting 6 months for a form 6 of course)
I should mention that Howa industries is the company which actually makes the gun for Mossberg

did not hear that, was it the bolt falling off like the mossberg 4x4.
why ship it to texas, just send it back to the importer?
who did you guy it from?

Mooncoon if you disengage the bolt shroud from the top of the cocking cam so the firing pin protrudes and the bolt locks up or almost the upgrade has not been done.

The bolt should stop a good 3/4 to 1 inch before it would contact the case head when the shroud is in the uncocked position and hit on the back of the receiver.

"Howa Machinery Ltd. of Japan is performing a "safety upgrade" (ie: recall) on all Model 1500, 1550 and 1700LS series rifles manufactured between 1970 and 1993. The affected rifles bear serial numbers from one of the following series on the receiver: PN00010-PN87159, LS00001-LS05150, M000001-M020422, LS10001-LS10309 and B000001-B028450. The safety upgrade will replace the bolt sleeve to prevent mis-assembly of the bolt, which might occur on the affected rifles. Such mis-assembly might result in a hazardous condition in which the rifle can be accidentally discharged without the bolt being fully engaged, causing severe injury. These rifles were distributed by Smith & Wesson, O.F. Mossberg and Interarms. Howa warned that, if you own one, stop using the rifle immediately and go to http://regcen.com/howa/index.html or call Howa at 800-456-5131 to receive a Bolt Return Kit. Only the bolt sleeve is upgraded, you do NOT need to ship your rifle or barreled action to Howa.

Hi,
I have a Smith & Wesson Model 1500 in 7mmRemMag. I sent my bolt in, mid January 2013 and had it back last week. Email or call them and they will send you the kit you need to mail it to them, it cost me an extra $18 so I could track it. I was in contact with a gentleman named "John" at http://www.sportsworldtulsa.com/. I have never had an issue with my rifle but had viewed a guy "mixup98" in youtube with a .223 and he said to send it in, if it hasn't been replaced yet. I just need to find somewhere near me to shoot it now :) I love this rifle it's accurate and I have had it since I was a teenager(over 20 years), it was my first high powered rifle purchase and has never let me down. I hope this info helps you or anyone that has one.
