A friend showed me this LG yesterday, asking if I had an idea of when it could have been made - there is no serial#.

The barrel is stamped as shown in the title and is smooth bored.

Overal length without tubes below, but to threaded muzzle in 37".

The longest screw on tube is 7.125" long and stamped
"MOSSBERG NO.II1 TARGO TUBE FOR ..2 SHOT"

The shorter rifled tube , 4.25" long and stamped
"MOSSBERG NORA1 RIFLE ADAPTER"

This rifle was given to my friend and came from the USA. The stock finish had been gummed badly up with some thing. He removed the stock but left th Tenite trigger guard and but plate in place. When he stripped the old finish, whatever he used, attacked the the plastic. But he continued and did a good job of refinished the stock and it is quite light in colour.

The open sights are excellent, fore sight a round post with small bead on top. The rear is ajustable for windage but the bolt used to raise and lower the sight is missing.

QUESTIONS>

1. Approximately when was this LD made?

2. Would the plastic trigger guard and butt plate still be available for
replacement? If so, where?

It may we a few weeks before I again have access to this gun for photographing.

Thanks

Mossberg Model 26 Targo

Model 26T bolt action single shot.
Takedown, 22lr,l,s & shot shell. Plain pistol grip stock, swivels. No. S101 front sight and No. S102 rear sight. Smoothbore Targo tube and No. RA-1 rifle adapters; installed and removed with spanner wrench. Made 1940-1942. 873 manufactured.
Parts might be available from Western gun Parts. Give them a call.

You can find all kinds of info on Mossberg rimfires here.

Below is a little info. You can get the trigger guard and buttplate from Numrich or Havlins in the US if they have stock. Also show up on gunbroker or ebay. If the trigger guard has just shrunk, you can reshape using a hair dryer and a c clamp. I have done several. This gun probably came with a special Mossberg thrower that attached to the gun and small clay birds.
Another thing you can do is join the rimfire central forum. The Mossberg subforum has a great bunch of guys on there who know pretty much everything about these old Mossbergs. They also have a Mossberg sell/trade section for anybody looking to find or get rid of parts.

Not familiar with that particular model. Mossberg used a pretty distinctive trigger guard/finger grip piece on many of their .22's. Does this one have a finger-grooved part that fits in the pistol grip of the stock?

Sly Here.

Yes, grooved and fits to answer your qiuestion.

As for another post above, whatever he used started to dissolve the plastic:eek:, no way it can be fixed.

My friend even asked if he could make one out of brass and I said forget about it, replacements must be available.

I'm just guessing but it's probably the same trigger guard and buttplate as the 26B, 26C and possibly the model 25's. Other models may also fit. There is someone on the Mossberg forum on rimfire central who makes aluminum replacement trigger guards for certain models.

The model pictured here above is a 42TR. The 26T has the bolt handle at the back of the receiver.
He's right about the Rimfire Central forum. Great guys and always willing to share their knowledge of Mossbergs.

Mossberg Model 26 trigger guard

Here's a picture of a Mossberg 26b trigger guard. I have 2 of them and they both have the same trigger guard on them.I would think they should be the same on the Targo models but then again Mossberg changed things a lot. Hope this helps with your search.
