I hadn't taken my Mossberg .22lr out for a while so I took it out on our land near Perth to do some plinking.

I fired off 10 rounds just fine, loaded up and pulled the trigger... BRRAAAAAT 6 rounds whent off, I nearly soiled myself. The other 4 rounds fired in semi mode like they are supposed to.

I came home and told my brother about it, he laughed and told me that it happened to him twice before when he borrowed the rifle. (Why he didn't tell me is another story)

EDIT: I forgot to mention, when my brother had it, he said that it only fired 2 rounds.

Has this happened to anyone? What were your solutions?

firing pin's probably stuck, due to being dirty. Known as a slam fire - the pin is stuck forward when the bolt closes on the next round, causing it to go off too.

Actually most .22s willslam fire if very dirty (stuck firing pin) and its cool except for three things.
1) Prohib.
2) They aren't made for it and there's no way to stop it until the mag is empty, releasing the trigger won't stop it.
3) They aren't made for it and sooner or later (usually sooner) you'll have an out of battery experience and thats not fun or safe.

Trust me I know. The rifle in question was unrecoverable. Luckily all I suffered was a fright, but it was a good thing I was wearing safety glasses.
