I bought a Mossberg 46 BA and I have some slight issues. I was wondering if someone can help me with.

#1 sometimes the bolt comes fully out when I pull it back to chamber a round. I normally have to fiddle with the safety switch a few times to get it to hold.

#2 sometimes it doesn't pop a round out of the tube. I normally have to work the bolt a few times.

But then sometimes it works perfect.

I would still follow Gunsaholics advice and give it a thorough going over. One piece of crud can be your worst enemy when you are trying to figure out an issue.
Check to see if the trigger guard is rubbing on the trigger itself. If it is it will hold the trigger back after being fired and the bolt will come out as if you were trying to remove it. Ask me how I know...
also check to make sure your trigger spring pressure is at least 2-3 lbs. A light trigger will sometimes do this as well.

Thanks, yeah I cleaned it and didn't notice nothing odd on the inspecting, The screws are tight.

I found I had to fiddle with the safety in between the red/green in order to keep the bolt in.

Sounds like something might have been put back together wrong. The safety on them is pretty straightforward. It only blocks the trigger at the rear when moved sideways. I have seen them put in upside down before on another model. Are there slots cut in the top of the safety?

Yes there are slots. The trigger might be adjusted a bit too much.

I would probably adjust the trigger a bit heavier. Have a really good look at the trigger gaurd to see if it's dragging or just take it off and see if it still does it.

In order to solve the bolt popping out I had to really crank in the trigger adjuster screw. Archer do you have a picture of where your screw is set at? Trigger pull is pretty heavy now.

I don't have one anymore to take a picture of. Gunsaholic might have one. I wonder if the trigger may have been modified (honed too much)or wrong trigger. There are a few triggers that look similar. It would be easier to figure out with it in front of me.

Thanks. I could get some pictures. I was thinking upgrading the mount and using this rifle vs buying a new one.

Pictures would help for sure...

I had to crank in the trigger screw in more... But its got no take up. Not sure whats causing it.

This is the position the safety has to be in, to fire and cycle w/o the bolt coming out.

Keep the trigger from extending too much allowing the bolt to slide out. Just on the lip of the trigger stop.

Would it sound like not enough spring pressure?

Only thing I can see right away is it has the wrong firing pin in it which is probably the whole problem. I'm surprised it will even function. The one in your rifle is for a 42 or 44 series rifle indicated by the tab at the very back of the body on the bottom.. Change the firing pin and it will likely work fine. In the last picture that little tab should slip under the trigger when cocked. Again the firing pin could stop this from happening. If I remember correctly the pin you have in your rifle now is slightly taller than the one that is supposed to be in there. There are a few that are close in size to each other. Here is a link to an exploded view to give you a better look.

Functions 100% if I keep the safety in the position it is now. Must push the trigger down enough to keep the bolt from coming out.

That's all I could figure out what it might be.( is the firing pin ). I ordered that firing pin, plus a new spring and plunger for the trigger. Good news Numrich doesn't have retarded shipping fee anymore.

I hope that cures your issue. I will bet money someone bought it with a broken or missing firing pin and that pin was what they had laying around and it fit and sort of functioned so it was good to go. LOL
Backyard gunsmithing at it's best. Last time I ordered from Numerich I had to get someone else to split the order or it wasn't worth it.

I hope it cures my issue. It was about 28 for the firing pin, plus I got a new spring and plunger for the trigger and something else. Shipping was only 17.50.
