Mossberg 464 SPX - The Ugly Duckling

I just had to do it - I bought the Mossberg 464 SPX, the "Tactical" lever action rifle (shout out to JP).

I bought it because I thought it was a fairly ugly rifle and I'm a sucker for the underdog. Now that I have it I don't think it is so ugly, the finish on it is superb, the action is far smoother than my last lever action (Marlin 1895SBL) and although it came with a scope I think I like the Hi-Viz open sights better and will probably leave it without the scope. I doubt very much that I will ever mount anything to any of the rails but I have large hands and the railed fore end makes for an excellent grip and of course the adjustable stock means it fits me no matter what.

I can't wait to take it out and to the range and try it out.

I'm sure the purists will (and have) slam this rifle but for me I think this rifle fits well into my collection.

My grandkid Karl love is, the one you got was left (unfired) by my other grandkid Yan who chosen a Socom 18 instead of the Moosberg, those rifle are a good kept secret and have a better QC than a Marlin... Good shooting... JP.

Meh why not.. as long as you already know how ugly it is lol there is nothing else to pick on you about. Great little rifle I bet. I just REALLY don't like the butt on it. I would just have put a regular AR style adjustable instead of that ugly rounded one.

The butt stock is an ATI model, the rounded cheek piece looks like it is removable (I'm at work right now and can't test it for sure) and of course it's an easy swap on the receiver extension tube to put any AR stock on it.

Good for you.

Personally I have only handled them in a store but they look and feel like they would be a fun brush rifle. Also I'm a fan of adjustable stocks and fiber glow sights.
