Mossberg 464

I've got one and I've shot it a lot. Haven't had a single issue with it in terms of reliability. I don't think it's a real walnut stock, it feels cheap. From what I understand it's a wood stock of some sort then they put a thin layer of walnut on the outside to give it the walnut appearance.
Overall the gun is really just a Win M94 copy with a round bolt. Hard to make something unreliable when you essentially copy a proven design.

Any of the reviews I've read have been favorable. Mossberg states on their web site that the stocks are "wood". If they were walnut I'm pretty sure Mossberg would be advertising that.
 
Why shop for a copy of an institution...buy a real Winchester..even a hundred years old...as they still operate like new and feel so good in your hands. Nostalgia and history all rolled into one rifle.
 
I'm looking for a scope mountable Winchester 94AE, but thought the 464 could be an interesting alternative at around $430.00 brand new. ( I already have a with a scout scope installed on a 1957 Win 94 in .30-30 and it's a rock solid, reliable and accurate rifle. My son is using it. Although I do like the rifle, the field of view of the scout mounted scope is more restrained than I would prefer.)
 
The Mossberg is a good solution then. Angle eject and drilled and tapped for a scope.

I bought my Mossberg as a knock about gun and it's served the role well. I don't feel right hunting hard with a 60 year old Winchester; it deserves respect.
 
Only a 60 year old winnie? My son, myself and a buddy hunt the bush with 1906 30-30 winchester rifles. They sure put 'em down and that is what they are meant for. Sitting in a safe or hung on a wall is an injustice to them.
 
It's my Grandpa's rifle from the 1950s. I still bring it out once and awhile in certain terrain, but I won't trudge through thick coastal forests with it and risk damaging it. I could have bought another pre-64 M94, but the Mossberg was worth a try. I'll most likely buy another M94 in the near future, in the 32 special flavor.
How the heck did all 3 of you manage to find three 1906 manufactured 30 WCF's?
