Mossberg 500 barrel swap?

Was just given a beater Mossberg 500A. It is has the fish scaling on the bolt. Can I put a newer barrel on it? Looking at Numrich's parts list it seems like there are a bunch of internal differences between new and old, but there doesn't appear to be any difference between barrels. Is this correct? The barrel I have is rather pitted on the exterior and I was thinking about giving it to a friend as a gift.

Right hand shotguns have never bothered me. Not sure I would even bother!

yep, no worries on swapping. shold fit any other 500. I have an 80's lakefield model and i put new barrels on it. still use the old for shooting skeet though
