I just bought this Mossberg 500 3-barrel 12ga. combo:

Before I head back to the store, I thought I'd see if you guys might have an answer for me. The problem is that the rifled slug barrel doesn't seem to fit the gun. As you can see, the tube-cap on that barrel is much closer to the receiver-end of the barrel than the other 2 barrels, so that when I try and mount it, when the tube-cap and the attachment screw are in place, the barrel is not seated into the receiver properly, because the distance from the tube-cap to the receiver-end is too short to allow it to travel compeletly into the receiver.

Am I just missing something, or did I get a mis-packaged barrel??

yes... because Winchester has never screwed anything up... :jerkit:

Sk8r, it looks like it was welded on in the wrong spot. I my 500 combo barrels all line up exactly.

It's pretty bad something as obvious as that can pass first stage quality control and then on to further QC checks after the dipping process.

I have a couple Mossberg's don't mind them one bit.

My 500 shoots slugs better with the 18.5" cylinder bore barrel than most do with the slug barrel. That said, you paid for 3 barrels. Take it back. Depending where you got it, they might just swap it for another in inventory so you can actually use your gun instead of waiting for a replacement.

I have seen this on a few of the mossy 500 combo,s
Remmeber this is the most basic , cheap package mossberg makes, only the frame is made in the US and is put togeather from parts they have made in china and mexico.
being the bbl is not fitted to the gun before shipping, its an easy mistake.
Only sad thing is if there is one like that , your going to see 100,s of them.
Its just how production works, no chance that it happened to only one.
Having seen how these are made, it would be a Jig that the bbl is placed into then the lug droped into and brazed on.
I have also seen bbls for 835 and 500 model with end cap in the same box instead of 500 fixed lug

Thanks SO much for the replies, guys. :)

I did wonder if I was having a blonde moment......

Anyway, I went back to the store this morning and the Owner had already realised what had happened & was completely expecting me. It had been shipped from his wholesaler wrong, and had already been slated for replacement, but the clerk I dealt with didn't know that. All good - I'm getting the proper barrel on Tuesday. The guy was SO apologetic, he couldn't have been kinder or more cooperative about it.

So, again, thanks so much for the advice here. :)
