Gentlemen, some suggestions would be appreciated. I have been working on a friend's Mosberg 500 12 ga pump. It had shell stop issues (fixed) and it would often leave a fired 3" magnum KENT FAST STEEL hull in the chamber after firing. ( no extraction) I polished the chamber expecting a rough chamber to be the culprit. On test firing the gun worked great with all loads but the Kents, they still failed to extract 3 to 4 times out of five. Pumping the gun a second time would often extract and eject the fired Kent hull. I was thinking weak extractor spring, extraxtor etc. Yesterday I was out patterning my own Mossberg 500 and it had the same issue. Worked well with all loads but the Kent 3" fast steel. Polishing the chambers of these two guns has not completely stopped this problem. (it has helped) Both guns are chambered for 3" loads. I have a brand new MOSSY 500 and I will test fire it this week to see if the problem persists with Kent ammo.Anyone have any issues with 3" Kent steel loads?

regards, Darryl

I am starting to wonder. I have compared the case rims on the Kent loads to Remington loads and older Imperial loads. The Kent has a very thin rim to grasp and it is slightly rounded on the inner radius. Funny part is that none of my non mossbergs have a problem with kent. I think it is a gun vs ammo combo that does not work well.

I just tried both my mossbergs with kent shells and didn't have a problem. I'd just switch ammo if I were you. I have a gun that won't extract federal top gun trap shells

My brand new 500 had no issues with the kent loads. I polished the chamber on my vintage 500 AB and it works fine now too. It took a lot of polishing to make it work but it works. But having said that once my Kents are used up I will be buying a different brand. I have read comments on US sites that indicate that Kent fasteel 3" loads have a tendancy to stick in some chambers. Probably a high pressure , high performance loading compiled with dirty or rough chambers. Funny thing Kent 2 3/4" do not stick at all. (pre polish)

Useless you're married to the Kent for some reason (price, local stores carry it or something), I would just look at other loads that don't give you any trouble. I have had good luck with Remmy nitro steels, even xperts pattern acceptably within reasonable range.
