Hi there,

I'm getting 500 JIC as my first shotgun.
I was wondering if I can put a rifled, 21" barrel on it later on without
taking it to a gunsmith.

It comes with 18.5 fixed cylinder choke.

I never owned a shotgun, so go easy on me :D

Thanks.

Nice shotgun, good choice...but the pistol grip on your new 500 is going to KILL your hand. Unless your shooting light birdshot loads, your hand will be f*cked after a couple of boxes of slugs or magnum buckshot loads.

I've owned a couple pistol grip shotties and after firing 3" magnum slugs the web of your hand is killing for a day or two. Would be a great carry gun in the woods or for self-defence in close quarters, but not to shoot extensively with magnum loads.

If you've never had/shot a shotgun before, a great choice would be a Norinco HP9 14" (If you like the compact look), or a Rem 870 7-shot synthetic express for an all purpose shotgun. They both go for around $400.00 NIB, and with the full stock you can fire any load you want all day long, 3" Magnum slugs, 000 Buckshot, etc.

I'd recommend getting the Mossberg 500 Persuader wich is very similar to the JIC but has a longer tube (8 rounds) and a standard stock. No special box or fancy finish, but its cheaper (318 delivered, taxes in, from Armco here on the board). You can accessorise it with pistol grip only or pistol grip + folding stock easily, as well as upgrade the barrel.

I bought a mossberg 500 from P&D in edmonton. It came with a pistol grip and adjustable stock. The adjustable stock is removed with 2 screws in about 30 seconds. the barrel is 18.5" and can also be change just as fast.
